i put on my wedges and head downstairs. my feet feel as uncomfortable as they could get, but they are the only decent pair of shoes i own. as i walk down the stairs, nate walks out of his and follows me down.
"did you hear about jace? he's dating-"
"yeah, i know. that's why riele was over, and why i'm wearing this," i respond, pointing to my dress.
"but isn't isabela a biotch?" he asks. i can't help but smirk at the name he called her, one of our fake swear words that we have to say at home because mom doesn't tolerate cussing.
"yep. that's the best word to describe her. in this house, at least," i sneer, shaking my head.
"and he's dating her? i thought he had better taste. like you, for instance."
"you and me both. all i can do is hope he sees through her like saran wrap," i respond.
"i'll talk to xander about this. maybe we can sort it out," he says.
i look at him blankly in the eye.
"don't."
"why? xander needs to know about the girl that's dating his brother. we'll warn him and possibly jace, too," he retorts, crossing his arms.
"yeah, and then when xander tells jace what you told him he'll trace it back to me."
nate uncrosses his arms.
"no, it'll just warn xander to keep his eyes open. i know my best friend. he wouldn't tell jace that you told me about this situation. c'mon, do you trust me?" he asks.
"yeah, but on one condition. i talk to xander."
we shake on it, and dad walks out to the garage to pull the car out, giving us the signal that it's time to go.
here goes nothing.
