jace's point of view
"jace?" mom's voice coos from the other side of the door. before i get the chance to respond, she opens it and walks in.
"uh, yeah?" i ask, putting down my phone.
"be sure to consider going to bed soon," she says as she peers at the window next door. she walks towards the window, lifting up the blinds with her fingers.
"i guess you have a nice view of our new neighbor?" she says, still glancing at the parker's house.
i sit up and look out the window. it's a girl sitting on her bed, her fingers tapping away on her phone. i wonder what she's talking about.
"oh yeah, that's maggie. we can hold signs up to communicate, huh?" i respond, laying back down, a smirk growing on my lips.
"so, you like maggie? not in a relationship way, but in the friendly way?" she asks, closing the blinds.
"yeah, she seems cool. i mean, we just met today," i respond, looking towards the window.
"will you perhaps show her around town? the mall, the movie theatre, places like that? we want to make her feel like she's at home. remember when we moved here? we didn't have anyone to show us around. we had to discover everything ourselves." she says.
"uh, yeah, no problem. do you think she'd like that?" i ask.
"i don't see why she wouldn't! i'm sure she's greatly appreciate it, especially from someone who she'll be working with and someone her own age," she responds, soothing out the blinds and walking toward the door.
"night, mom," i say, grabbing my phone again.
"good night, jace," she responds, shutting my door.
i smile to myself thinking about her. hopefully things won't be as awkward as they were today between us.
