*Josh's POV - A Year Ago*
"Mom, I'm taking Abby outside to play!" I yelled out before helping my little sister put on her ladybug rain boots.
"Joshie, Joshie! I wanna go play!" The little girl said to me, smiling a giant smile before trying to fight my grasp on her. I was on the last Velcro strap on her boots. "Now?"
"Yep." I opened the door, the cool, moist air hitting me. The rainstorm outside had just faded away, leaving behind the cool air that had been desired. She ran ahead of me, jumping in the various little puddles before running over to where she kept her little toys. She sat in the dirt and played, murmuring stuff about the storm and all the puddles.
Being a sophomore in high school, I never had much time anymore to play with Abby. So, I took all the time I had with her. I heard her yell something out before I bent down to pick up one of her Barbies off the ground, one that was dressed in a pink tutu and a green tank top. A clear sign of her and her switching of outfits.
I didn't hear the screeching until the last minute.
I heard the brakes, then the scream.
A scream that would be echoing in my mind for the next year.
