I step outside onto the hot sun, where the sun's glare beats down on my face. I look around the parking lot, trying to see if Gavin was there. But all I see are random students waiting for their rides.
I try to pass time by looking up at the clouds, in the distance. They just look like random blobs in the sky, but I stare at them anyway.
After ten minutes of staring aimlessly, I look at my watch. It reads 3:24. Wow. It was later than I thought.
I sigh, angry at myself for getting my hopes up. Before I even take a step towards the public bus station, a sleek red vehicle pulls up in front of me. Gavin quickly opens the door and runs out, looking terribly apologetic. He should be.
"Delphi!" He says, running up to me with a package in hand. He starts to ramble on, "I'm so, so sorry! I lost track of time! I didn't know what time it was until it was too la--." I stop him, putting my hand on his arm.
"Where were you?" I ask. He seems taken aback. Like he expected me to be angry. Well, I am angry.
"I cut school. I was at the Hills." He answers, slightly perplexed. Everyone always goes to the hills whenever they cut school. But I wouldn't know how it looked during school, because I've never cut. I'm too much of a goody-goody.
I just nod, and rub my arms, feeling cold. Gavin notices that and hands me his jacket.
"Here. I owe you anyway," When he sees that I'm confused, he adds, "For waiting." I smile gratefully at him, my anger melting away.
"Are we still up for today?" He asks me. He holds his hand up for me to take.
"Let me check something," I tell him, and turn around for some privacy. I take out my phone and check it for messages.
MISSED CONVERSATION 1: MOM
I look at it, and then back at Gavin, who's waiting for me to say something. As I think of my necklace and all of the problems it brought for me and my friends, I realize that this is probably going to be one of my last chances of being normal.
So I ignore it, and take his hand. He opens the door for me like a real gentleman and I climb into his car.
He gets into the vehicle and sticks the keys into the ignition, and as he starts it and begins to drive away, that itchy feeling comes back.
Again, I ignore it.
After a while, it gets dark and my eyes start to droop. But when I see the sign, I keep myself as alert as possible.
LEAVING MIST HERALD.
Gavin just drove beyond the city limits. The night is spooky, and the moon, which shines gloomily, is enough to make me a bit scared.
"Where are we going?" I ask him. He just gives me a dark smile, making me wish I hadn't gone with him.
"Just wait and see," Is all he says, and strangely, I don't want to.
