I opened my eyes and winced at the bright light that shone in the sky. I was lying on a field, and my clothes, jeans and a tee shirt, were oddly burnt. I sat up and put a hand over my eyes, trying to shield myself. I blinked a few times to clear away the glare.
"Where am I?" I whisper. Then a sudden rustle behind me makes me turn around. It's a girl in a baby pink dress that looks like it's made from soft cotton. Her bright blue eyes are interesting to me.
"Oh, so you're awake." She says in a soft and gentle voice.
"Where am I?" I repeat, confused.
"Minnesota." She answers, and then she says, "I didn't want to wake you up. You were surrounded by fire." Then she crossed herself.
"Are you," She asks, "The Devil?" I shake my head "no." She sighs in relief.
"Here, let me help you," She tells me. She lifts me up with her hands, surprisingly strong.
"What's your name?" I ask her. She doesn't answer, and instead chooses to cross and uncross her arms. I smile at her, trying to get her to warm up to me. My mouth feels numb, and I wonder, what is wrong with me?
"Evaleen," She whispers to me, and I smile gratefully.
"So Evaleen, how did I get here?" I ask. Then she smiles, and I see her pointy, and monstrous-looking teeth. I bite back the urge to gag.She looks like she hungers for something, but I don't want to know what it is.
"ANSWER!" I command in my head. I close my eyes and look deep inside her, into her soul. When I find what I'm looking for, her life force, I squeeze. When I open my eyes, her own eyes roll to the back of her head, fighting my grip, but it's no use. She loosens her control, and finally, finally, I have her under my rule. Her eyes go back to normal but they glaze over, and when she speaks, her voice is slightly shaky.
Then I'm shaky. I wrench my eyes close, trying to swat away all my thoughts, the ones that say freak, crazy, evil. Monster.
"I've brought you back to life, master." I open my eyes at that, and then she smiles even wider, showing off her pink gums. She looks so hideous, but it sparks something in me, a memory. I close my eyes slowly, and I remember: I've been cast out by my own family, because of my power. They killed me in fear.
Then I look up at the girl, my new coven sister, at the only person in the whole world who can believe me. Everyone else thinks I'm a mistake, that I'm an abomination. Then the girl interrupts my thoughts.
"What would you like me to call you, master?" She asks, and I answer without hesitation.
"The Destroyer," I say. Then I laugh, a loud belly laugh.
"Let us take over the world, sister." I say, softly cackling, and she smiles as if she realizes that I've remembered the pain once more, "It's time for them to pay." And this time, when I smile, I finally have feeling in my mouth. My teeth shine in the light, and they're just like my sister's.
Aching for bloodshed.
