Chapter 4

~Chapter four~

I was lying in bed while Effie lightly snored staring at the clock I realized it was almost midnight. I puffed the air moving the hair into my eyes. I slowly moved my hand trying to get Effie to let me out of her viper like hold so I could go read, I felt a mystical tug to the book my mother had left me. After struggling for thirty minutes I had finally managed to get out, I crept towards the door and looked back at Effie.

"Take just a bit perchance?" A husky voice entered my mind, I found myself leaning forward.

"What the?" I blinked somehow ending up next to my bed with my hand on Effie's cheek while she slept. I could see a trickle of energy go from her face to my hand, I could feel it going through my body making me feel as if I had stuck my hand in an electric socket. I removed my hand slowly and then rushed to my office. I tried to slow my breathing as to avoid a panic attack only to realize something poking my side, I looked down to see tails hitting my hip with the book. "Thanks... still don't actually know what part of me you are." I picked up the book fiddling with my necklace it was thrumming more so than usual but still seemed to be able to do its job and comforted me. I sat down on the couch and started to read.

Chapter one: The seven kingdoms

My dear children,

I do not know which one of you read this now but the reason I have started this book is to pass on knowledge from each generation as we go. Each of you will have a different way of ruling, a different story to add mine. Long before your time my dears the world was in anarchy and complete chaos, the gods looked down on us and started to argue about how they could right the wrong. They decided to create seven courts which will be divided into the seven virtues. Now I do not know if you are into any form of religion but in case you aren't I shall explain what these are. The sevens virtues consist of charity, diligence, temperance, kindness, humility, and finally our other half chastity. Although these courts started out pure due to the gods creating them they were not the only ones with such power. As luck would have it someone was also looking up at us that day, thus the courts of the seven sins were also created, greed, sloth, gluttony, envy, wrath, vanity and most important to us lust.

Things are not simply black and white my child, we are not simply wrong or right even though some will attempt to tell you otherwise. Even if we are of a different species nobody is perfect. We are two sides of the same coin. After creating these courts destruction reigned harder their plans had backfired. Because of this it caused some courts to merge, whether it was because one overpowered the other or because in the end the goals were the same I am unsure for each one. I am unsure how much longer I have left. It has been centuries since I was able to feed, maybe in the future you will find the answer until next time my children.

"Elise how long have you been up?"

"Hu? Wait why aren't you in bed?"

"Well maybe because it's nine am and we have to get ready for a certain 'plan' at the pack house." Effie rolled her eyes grabbing my hand attempting to drag me back to my bedroom.

"Oh yer the pack meeting." I stood up allowing Effie to drag me up to my bedroom. The next hour consisted of her throwing clothes onto reject pile, apparently I needed to dress up both because I was getting the pack as well as getting back at Walter. Eventually she found the perfect outfit for me, she shoved me into the bathroom then began to search through her own clothes as to what she was going to wear.
