-AYAAN'S POV-
The moment the bell rang, signaling the end of our second-last exam, everyone was forced into revision classes. But Naina, she took principal's permission to leave early today. She was feeling a little off, seeing that I did the same and left school early
my eyes scanning the road for Naina. And there she was-walking ahead, her bag slung on her one shoulder, lost in thought. I quickly catched up to her in a few steps.
She startled at my sudden presence before shooting me a glare. "Tujhe har baar dil ka daura dena zaroori lagta hai kya?"
(Do you feel it is necessary to give me a heart attack every time?)
I chuckled. "Aadat se majboor hoon."
(It's a habit now)
She rolled her eyes but didn't push me away. Instead, we walked together, there was silence, but not awkward. Even without words, just being with her feels..right.
As we walked past a group of old aunties, their curious gazes followed us-a schoolboy and a schoolgirl walking home together. But did I care? Not one bit.
Instead, I turned my head slightly toward her. "Tumhe pata hai na kal kya hai?"
(You do know what is tomorrow?)
Her steps didn't stopped, but the way she nodded told me she hadn't forgotten. Of course, she wouldn't. Tomorrow was our last exam.
And tomorrow, I would be leaving.
Abroad. My father's dream, not mine. Did I want to go? No. Did I have a choice? Also no.
Her voice was quieter when she finally asked, "Kitne din ke liye?"
(For how many days?)
"Ek saal" I murmured.
(One year)
She didn't react immediately. Just kept walking, eyes fixed ahead. My chest felt heavy, but I forced a chuckle, trying to lighten the moment. "Ek saal koi zyada bada time nahi hota, Naina. Tum meri yaad me ro mat baithna."
