Dallas turns around."Yea. What about you, man?"
"Sophie," I reply.
"Well, Sophie, have fun," he says chuckling and walks off towards where the music is blaring.
I stand there for a few minutes after he leaves. I shouldn't be here. Then I think of James and what he's done to me. Why should James get to have all the fun? I can't wait to see his face when he finds out I'm at a Greaser party.
I look around and realize some people are staring at me. Looking down at my expensive sweater and long skirt and the contrasting jeans, crop tops, and old jackets of the people around me, I realize I must be sticking out like a sore thumb.
I unbutton my sweater slightly and walk into the other room. This is the room where the Hank Williams record is playing and there is a pool table in the middle of the floor. Dallas and Buck are playing against each other and smoke wafts through the air. A make-shift bar sits in the corner and a pale kid with greased hair and a shadow of a beard is pouring people drinks.
The people sitting at the bar consist of a few greasy, slicked back haired teenage guys wearing either plain white t-shirts, flannels rolled up to their elbows, or some sort of jacket wether it be jean or leather, associating themselves with different groups. There are two girls at the bar. One girl is wearing high waisted denim shorts, a white tank top and a flannel, drinking a beer. The other is wearing jeans and a tied up red and white polk-a-dot shirt with one of the greasy haired guys attached to her side, kissing her neck. All young, possibly teenagers.
They all turn to look at me except for the couple beginning to furiously kiss each other in the corner. The pale teenager pouring drinks from a whiskey bottle into small glasses varrying in shape sitting around the bar stops pouring and says, "Hey darlin', can I help you out with something?"
"Um, I'll take a beer."
