Chapter 14: A Pleasant Walk

It was quite early when Gundham and I had our first stroll. It also quite chilly. Nevertheless, I was happy. We were happy. We were chatting about nothing in particular when there was a sharp bark beneath us.

A Pomeranian with a lot of spunk was yapping at us with pure fury. It was adorable except for the part where it wanted to bite my head off.

"Get back my lady!" Gundham yelled while pushing me back slightly. I obeyed and waited in amusement to see what he would do about this treacherous beast. He walked up to the dog menacingly and proceeded to feed it some kibble from his pocket. Of course he did.

"I have vanquished the hellhound!" He laughed in victory as the Pom played with one of his dangling earrings.

To our surprise, the earring came loose and the dog ran off with it in its mouth. I laughed at the scene while Gundham just stared at where the Pom was in confused shock.

"My earring..." he sat there in silence. He stood up suddenly and shouted, "YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE END OF GUNDHAM TANAKAAAAAA! I SHALL COMEMORATE THIS MOMENT WITH THE HELLHOUND EARRING! I WILL TAME YOU BEAASSSTTT!"

I was dying laughing at this point. After his big show I was able to drag him back to the cottages. I was able to convince him it was okay that he lost the earring and we parted ways. I got home and saw Sonia sitting on couch, ecstatic.

"How was your date?" She said beaming.

I smiled and told her about the date. She giggled at the interaction and then we were interrupted by Chiaki finally waking up. She had a thick book in her hands, the itinerary. There was a festival planned for that evening. We had to go pick up the yukatas we rented for the night. Chiaki asked me to gather some of our classmates to help pick up and deliver the garments.

On the way to their cottages, I was thinking about the trip. It had been a wonderful experience. Everyone was  together and happy. It was a little embarrassing, but I felt that there wasn't a world where we would fail. At that moment, I could help but feel hope brimming inside of me.

Ibuki shared a cottage with Saionji and Mahiru. From the outside, it looked like any other cottage, but if you looked through one of the window, you would see what looked like a neon dungeon. I assumed it was Ibuki's room. When she opened the door, we gathered the rest of her roommates and left to go pick up the yukatas.

The night was young when we arrived at the bustling festival. I was wearing a (f/c) yukata and a Peace Lily flower clip.

People filled the streets as well as the smell of amazing food. Like, the smell alone could fill my stomach. I left with Chiaki in pursuit of finding the source of the smell and to our surprise (but not really) Teruteru had his own stand. He was selling his own healthy version of tonkatsu.

We continued to walk around the stands. Chiaki stopped to play a shooting game while Ibuki watched, but I kept on walking. Looking around some more, I saw Nagito playing a luck based game. Gundham was talking to Sonia. I noticed he was wearing his scarf with his rich purple yukata. He and I made eye contact and we smiled at each other. I walked a little father down and saw Peko. She had one a mask of Sparkling Justice.We chatted for a bit when Fuyuhiko came by with some takoyaki. Peko took it from him and tried to feed him one while he shyly refused. The moment felt so perfect, I decided to take a picture. I knew I took it at the perfect moment because you could see Soda freaking out when he noticed Sonia talking to Gundham.

He rushed over and started to make a fuss. "Hey man! What's the deal? Aren't you betrothed or something? Why are you talking to another girl?!?" His jealousy was blatant.

I marched over there to put an end to his useless ranting. He turned to me, "Y/N, aren't you upset that your boyfriend is talking to another girl? It's inappropriate!"

"The only thing inappropriate here is you. I trust Sonia and full heartedly trust Gundham. They can converse without me."

He said in defeat while a single tear dripped from his eye. "God, it's useless. You even talk like him now." I rolled my eyes at him and gestured to Gundham, who was just staring at him with Sonia, to get him to come with me. We walked around some other booths and even found one with adorable little puppies. He searched fiercely for the little Pom but it must have been a runaway.

We continued to walk around the festival when Ms.Yukisome called us over. There was going to be a firework show!

Most of the students sat on the hill and prepared for the show. Gundham and I stood at the top of the hill and waited.

"You trust me?" He said, sounding almost concerned but mainly hopeful.

"Of course? Why do you doubt that?"

"I suppose, I've always been hesitant to trust another person." He stares at the ground with that softer version of that intense look on his face. "But, you are not another human being... Of course! You have touched the poisoned prince and dared to walk the earth with him. I do not believe there is something more trust worthy than that."

We smiled at each other as I reached over to in tuck his scarf which got caught up in his yukata at some point in the night. The fire works began as the purple fabric flew with the wind. They were so beautiful, so hopeful. Leaning a little closer to him, I gently laid my hand on his arm. To my surprise, he didn't tense up like he usually did when I touched him. In fact, I think he smiled a little wider. The moment was so felt so perfect, I barely even noticed the flash. I did notice, however, Mikan falling down the hill.

As Saionji bagan to berate her, I turned to see what Gundham thought. I found him looking it at me. He started to lean in and I began as well. Our lips almost met when a squeak interrupted us. The Dark Devas (which had been there the whole time) were cheering for joy. I rolled my eyes and we resumed.

That was the first time we kissed. When we broke apart I hoped Ibuki hadn't seen to be spared the teasing until Gundham spread his arms and began to laugh like a maniac.

"I am elder God wrapped in flesh!" He cried, catching the entire classes attention. Ibuki rushed over for the drama and I shyly explained the milestone.

Obviously, I received relentless teasing from Ibuki until we got to her cabin on the way home. Then Sonia and Chiaki teased me a bit too. As I finally drifted to sleep, I only had hope for the future.

A/N- Hey I'm backkkk. With the announcement of Danganronpa 2x2 I thought it was a pretty good reason to get back to the grinder. Lowkey, Y/N needs to stop hanging out with Nagito 😭. I hope y'all like the story. I think this might be the last chapter on Jabberwock so be prepared to leave the warm beaches!
