Just relax, you’re only going to meet Ed’s father, no big deal. Who am I kidding? It is a big deal. I looked over to my right where Ed was sitting. “He’s twenty minutes late.” He gruffed and looked back at the entrance, waiting for his father to come walking in. Okay, so I agreed to go to dinner and meet his dad. But I had no idea that the both of us would be so nervous. I just wanted Ed’s father to accept me just like his mom did.

I met Margaret, Ed’s mom, two days ago as soon as she came back from the hospital. She was really nice to me and I found out that she is a very patient and loving mother. Ed sighed next to me and started drumming his fingers on the table. I frowned. He was even more nervous than I was. I looked up at his handsome face.

He was wearing a nice suit he got with Ryan, which matched him perfectly. It was a whole new style for Ed. I also found out that Ryan was Ed’s cousin, shockingly. Ed didn’t know himself so he was just as shocked as I was. I covered my hand over his and smiled at him. He stopped any movement he made and stared at me. A smile crept on his face and my heart ached as I knew that I would lose him in a matter of days.

“Ed, I’m sure he’ll be here soon.” I said and rubbed my hand over his. “I know, I’m just overreacting.” He sighed again. He looked exhausted somehow with bags under his eyes. I just hope he wasn’t stressing so much but deep down, I knew he was.

A tall man with the same icy blue eyes like Ed hovered next to our table. “You must be Miss Evans.” He grinned and held out his hand to me. I stood up and shook his outstretched hand. “Yes, but please call me Shay.” I said. He nodded.

“I’m Thomas Crawford. It’s nice to meet you.” he said and took a seat. “Hello Edward.” Thomas greeted. Ed mumbled a quiet ‘hello’. Thomas then ordered a white wine and clutched his hands together. He didn’t look very old, maybe in his fifties. I couldn’t help but have this weird feeling around him.

“I’m sorry for the delay; there was something important that needed to be done.” Ed glared at him. I could feel the tension between the two of them. “You could’ve called you know.” Ed huffed. “At least I still came didn’t I?” I held my breath and watched the two of them discuss.

Thomas shook his head, annoyed and looked away. The waiter came over and took our orders. Everything was still tense of course. I didn’t trust myself to start a conversation. My voice would probably come out as a squeak or something and hell that would be embarrassing.

“So, Shay, what do you do for a living?” Thomas asked me. I relaxed at bit. “Well I work as a graphic designer. It’s pretty fun and always has been my dream to become one.” I nodded, not knowing what else to do or say. His eyes squinted. “That’s a very interesting job. I know a couple of people who have the same occupation as you do. They’re all very creative people and I am sure that you are too.” I didn’t really believe a word he said. The way he expressed his face gave away that he sure wasn’t interested in the job or maybe even me. If I were talking to him over the phone, I would have believed him but this man was a 100% phony.

Our salads came and we started eating. I wanted to groan because it tasted so good but I kept it in me. “Edward, have you packed your belongings already?” Ed stiffened as soon as he heard his name. Edward absolutely did not match him. “Don’t really have much stuff to pack…” he trailed off and a pang of hurt hit me as I was reminded again that he was leaving soon. “I’ve set up a penthouse for you in Paris; you’ll find everything you need there. If you need anything just ask Ryan and he’ll get it for you pronto.”

Ed’s eyes widened and that sentence was like a slap to my face. He wasn’t used to all this. What if France would change Ed? My Ed? I glanced over to him and had to stare. He was magnificent in every way but would he really change to something else? I definitely hoped not since it would be a total shame. And plus, I didn’t really want him to change. I liked him the way he is now.
