Mr. Rodgers
“I’m definitely in.” Lisa said. “I am too,” Calvin followed. He looked at Lisa and smiled. “If it means we can spend some time together.”
Ryan nodded and turned to look at me. “What about you, Shay?” he asked me and gave me an award winning smile. “Why are you doing this?” Ed interrupted. Ryan’s gaze left mine and his smile faded. “I just thought it was a great idea to spend some time with friends and see how the cabin is, you know, get some feedback on what other people think. I think we all need a break once in a while, don’t you think, Ed?” It sounded like he was provoking Ed.
“I’ll come, but I have work next week and I bet all of you too.” I said, unsure. Ed came into my mind. He has work to do and I wasn’t sure if he would take leave just for this unplanned ‘holiday’. “You can take a week off. We’ll leave on Sunday morning, stay there for four to five days and come back.” Ryan said and shrugged as if it wasn’t such a big deal.
“I-I’ll go.” Ed said with hesitation. I looked at him, shocked. “Ed,” I whispered. “You don’t have to…I won’t go either.” He shook his head. “I can manage and I think I do need a short holiday.” He answered with a weak smile.
“So it’s settled then.” Ryan clapped his hands and laughed.
I closed my suitcase and carried it over to the door. I hated packing. It always felt like I was forgetting something. A big black Audi was parked in front of the building. I locked the door and went down. Boris was staying at my mother’s house until I came back. She was so happy to have him.
Calvin came out of the driver’s seat and helped me put my suitcase in the trunk. Ed and Lisa were already inside but there was no sign of Ryan. “Hey.” Ed smiled. He was sitting next to Calvin, in the passenger’s seat. Lisa and I were seated behind them. “Hi.” I blushed.
“Where’s Ryan?” I asked. “He’s already waiting for us at the cabin. I get to drive one of his cars, isn’t she a beauty?” Calvin said and started driving. Lisa rolled her eyes. “Boys and their toys.”
“We’re here.” Lisa said and nudged me. My eyes wandered to the huge wooden house in front of me. On the patio I could see Ryan looking down at us with a smile. He looked so mighty, so full of power. Ed and Calvin brought the suitcases in. In the meantime I looked around. The cabin was surrounded by very tall trees. In front of it, not too far away, was a huge lake. There was a dock where a small motorboat was tied to.
“Let’s go in.” Lisa said. The house was magnificent on the outside and in the inside. It had four stories. In the ground floor there was a middle sized indoor swimming pool and next to that was a Jacuzzi. The second floor was where the kitchen was and the dining table. Huge shelves with books were on the right side. A fire place with couches and seats surrounding it was available too.
The third and fourth floor all held bedrooms with two bathrooms for every floor. In total there were five bedrooms; three on the third and two in the fourth. Ryan’s room was on the fourth floor. He had the whole floor all to himself and his secretary. Calvin and Lisa were sharing a room together on the third. Ed’s room was between Lisa’s and mine.
We were all sitting around the fireplace now. A woman came in and walked over to Ryan. “This is Alexis my secretary. I invited her to join us I hope you don’t mind.” Alexis was a tall woman with legs to die for. She had wavy dark hair up to her shoulders. She had dark rimmed glasses covering her big brown eyes. “Hello.” She greeted and took a seat next to Ryan.
“Are you guys up for a swim?” Ryan asked. “Hell yeah.” Calvin answered and everybody went up to change into their swimsuits. Alexis was the only one who stayed seated. “Aren’t you coming?” I asked her. She looked up to me and shook her head. “I’m not really a big swimmer.” She answered and looked away. I left her alone and changed to my bikini.
