Unexpected Accident

I watched Ed as he played on his phone. Is he ever going to ask me to dance? We were at the Callington’s mansion in their ballroom and I have been sitting the whole time doing nothing but watch people dance. Ed was happily playing Angry Birds on his phone and it was starting to annoy the hell out of me. I looked around and saw Lisa dancing with Calvin. They looked so cute together. Why can’t I have a guy like Calvin? I sighed and went out of my seat. Ed’s head rose to look at me. I frowned and walked around the huge room. The music was slower now and I immediately recognized the song “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri. It was one of my favorite songs and I was desperate to dance to it.

I looked around in search of an available guy. I spotted a nice looking guy with dark hair next to the bar, talking to someone with a drink in his hand. My feet automatically walked over to him. I may be clumsy but I’m not shy at all. “Hi,” I smiled brightly at the guy. “Would you like to dance with me?” I asked. Please say yes! He nodded, set his drink down and led me to the dance floor. We started dancing and I must say the guy was a pro. “I’m Ryan.” He said. “I’m Shay. Thanks for dancing with me. My ‘date’ sort of ditched me for his phone.”

“That sucks. Where is he?” he chuckled. I pointed to where Ed was sitting and caught him looking at me. He had a confused expression on his face. Ryan laughed loudly, his dark eyes twinkling with joy. “He doesn’t look happy at all. In fact, he looks really jealous.” My eyes widened.  “Let’s push him a bit. See how far he lets me go.” Ryan added and pulled me closer to him so our bodies were touching everywhere. His head dropped down to my neck. I took a glance at Ed and caught sight of how he quickly stood up and walked our way, pushing the people out of his way. How impolite, he can’t just shove people out of the way like that.

“Um…Ryan he’s coming.” I whispered in fright. “Excuse me,” Ed tapped on Ryan’s shoulder. Both men bore into each other’s eyes. It was like they were having an eye-staring contest. I laughed and Ryan grinned without breaking his stare. “I believe it’s my turn.” He stated. Ryan nodded and left after giving me a heartwarming smile. Ed turned to me and did the ‘Scary Ed Look’. Oh shit, I’m in trouble. Every time he looked at me like that I turn back into a five year old who stole a cookie from the cookie jar. Without thinking, I walked out of the dance floor, weaving past people dancing. I grabbed my drink and went outside the hallway. There were less people here than inside. Ed was right behind me. What am I going to say? Damn it.

“Didn’t you want to dance?” He asked. I shook my head. “Not in the mood.” I answered. His face turned grim. Jeez, does he ever smile at all? “But just now you danced with that guy.” He stated, hurt. I shrugged and looked away. There was a moment of embarrassing silence. Then Lisa walked out of the ballroom with Calvin tagging along. “Hey, there you are. I’ve been looking all over the place for you.” She said. “The party’s great, have you guys tried the lasagna at the buffet?” Calvin exclaimed. Calvin was obsessed with food. He wasn’t fat; he actually worked out a lot since he’s a personal coach. He was a bit shorter than Ed but only about a centimeter or three.

“No, we haven’t and I think it’s time for Shay and I to head back home.” Ed said. What?! It was only midnight and he wanted to go home? I felt anger all through my body and I wanted to slap Ed’s face so hard. I could stay but then I no one would be there to send me home. “Already?” Lisa asked stunned. She looked at me and winked. “Well I hope you had fun. Hope to see you some time soon, Ed.” Ed nodded at her and Calvin and walked down the stairs. Lisa grabbed me by my arm and pulled me closer to her. “Use protection!” She whispered in my ear. Shocked, I smacked her lightly and went down the stairs. At the end Ed was waiting, watching me. I was so absent minded that I didn’t look where I was going so I ended up tripping and falling down the hard marble stairs. Pain shot through my ankle and the drink I forgot about that was in my hand spilled everywhere, including Ed’s white dress shirt, making it see through.

“Owww!” I yelled and gripped my ankle to make the pain stop but it didn’t work. “Oh my god, Shay!” I heard Lisa gasp and felt a warm hand touch my shoulder. I could hear Calvin laughing at me. Great. “Shay, where does it hurt the most?” Ed asked. I pointed at make ankle. “It’s nothing it’s only sprained.” I said, while trying to get up. Ed wrapped an arm around my waist and helped me. “You’re so clumsy.” Lisa said, smiling like a Cheshire Cat. “Gee, thanks for the sympathy.” I said sarcastically. “Make sure to put ice on it when you get home.” Calvin said after taking a look at my ankle. I nodded. “Ed, can you help her up the stairs when you get to her apartment?” Lisa asked, worried. “Of course, don’t worry.” He said and helped me hobble to his car.

We arrived in about 20 minutes. The car ride was quiet and we didn’t talk about anything. Ed insisted on carrying me up to my crib, so I let him. It felt good to be in his arms. As I opened the door with my keys, I remembered that his shirt was wet and probably sticky. “Do you want to come in?” I asked and he simply nodded. He helped me walk over to the couch. I sighed in exhaustion. “Take off your shirt. It must be sticky.” I said. He did as I told and I drooled over his six pack. Ed was standing half naked in my living room!

“Take a picture, it’ll last longer. Trust me. Now,” he said. I blushed as he said that and looked away. Don’t look at his tummy, anywhere but his abs. “Where can I get ice for you ankle?” he asked. I told him where to find it and he returned with an ice compress.

My ankle was already starting to swell. Ed sat next to me and real close by the way. I noticed he had small stubbles on his chin and that made him look manly. “That looks like it hurts.” He said in stage whisper. Gently, he put the ice compress on my ankle and I hissed at the coldness, grabbing his arm. He scooted closer to me. If I moved just a tiny bit forward, my forehead would be touching his. His lips looked real soft and they were slightly parted. My eyes looked into his and saw him watching me as well.

I slowly leaned into him, our lips almost touching…
