"Oh, Kibutsuji?" A kind voice made Y/N froze as she heard the sound of footsteps approaching, the gentle crunch of gravel on the courtyard path unmistakable in the stillness of the night.
Her heart leapt into her throat, a surge of panic and fear coursing through her veins as she quickly wiped away the tears that clung to her cheeks.
As the footsteps drew closer, Y/N hastily donned the cold, aloof mask she wore as a defense against the cruelty and malice that surrounded her.
She straightened her spine, tilting her chin up in a display of haughty disdain, and turned to face the intruder with a glare that could cut glass.
The figure stepped into the dim lantern light, and Y/N found herself staring at a woman with a cascade of pink and green hair, the colors a stark contrast to the dark, muted tones of the night.
It was Mitsuri Kanroji, the Hashira of Love, her beauty as legendary as her skill in battle.
Mitsuri paused, her eyes widening slightly as she took in the sight of Y/N standing there in the courtyard, the remnants of her tears still glistening on her skin.
A faint frown tugged at her lips, a flicker of concern and curiosity in her gaze.
"Kibutsuji," Mitsuri said softly, her melodic voice breaking the silence.
"What are you doing out here, all alone and in such a... state?" Her eyes flicked to Y/N's face, noting the lingering trails of moisture and the rigid set of her jaw.
Y/N's glare never wavered, her voice cold and sharp as she replied.
"I could ask the same of you, Lady Mitsuri. Shouldn't you be in your quarters?" It was a bold question, a challenge in the face of the demon's curiosity, but Y/N knew she had to maintain the facade, had to keep up the appearance of the Muzan Kibutsuji.
Mitsuri's frown deepened for a moment, but then she shrugged, a careless, almost dismissive gesture.
"I could say the same of you," she retorted, a note of amusement in her voice.
"But I have a feeling your reasons for being out here are rather different from my own." She took a step closer, her green and pink hair shimmering in the lantern light as she studied Y/N's face with a thoughtful, almost perceptive gaze.
"You're not like the others, are you Kibutsuji?" Mitsuri murmured, her voice soft and low.
"There's something... different about you. Something that sets you apart from the rest of the demons in this place."
