💮
The village streets glowed softly under rows of paper lanterns, their warm light chasing away the shadows.
The laughter of humans floated through the air, children tugging at their mothers’ sleeves, merchants calling out their wares, the smell of roasted chestnuts drifting between the stalls.
Amid all of it, Y/N walked.
Her presence turned heads, not because anyone suspected what she was, but because her beauty was impossible to ignore.
Dressed in silken black with crimson eyes that shimmered like embers, she moved with elegance that seemed almost unearthly.
At her side, Rui clung tightly to her hand.
His small fingers pressed so hard into her palm it almost hurt, though Y/N did not pull away.
She glanced down at him, and the stiffness in her gaze softened.
“Are you tired already, Rui?” she asked gently, slowing her steps so he could match her pace.
Rui shook his head quickly, his pale hair swaying. “No, Mommy. I just… don’t want to get lost.”
His voice was small, almost drowned out by the chatter of the humans around them.
Y/N stopped, crouching down so her eyes were level with his. “You won’t,” she said firmly.
Her hand reached up, smoothing back the fringe that fell into his face. “ I will not let you lost yourself, Do you believe me?”
Rui’s red eyes widened.
He nodded, clutching her sleeve even tighter. “I believe you.”
She smiled then, faint but real, and kissed the top of his head before rising again.
The gesture was kind, hidden by the crowd, but Rui’s cheeks turned pink all the same.
They walked further, past a group of children playing with spinning tops.
Rui slowed, his gaze following them with a quiet longing.
Y/N noticed instantly.
Without a word, she stopped at a stall, her sharp eyes sweeping over the toys displayed there.
