Chapter 2:Jealous

Bad boys ain't no good, good boys ain't any fun. Lord knows that I should, run off with the right one.

She sang the lyrics to one of her favorite songs as it flowed through her headphones. She was busy in the kitchen on a warm sunny Sunday morning making breakfast, which consists of coconut bakes with fishcakes and cocoa tea. She was so busy that she didn't hear the front door open and Kayden entering until he spoke. "The view looks great from here," he said as he sat on a stool near the kitchen counter, making Queenie turn around with her spatula in hand. "What's cooking," he said.

"Everything, you hungry?" she asked as she continued.

He nodded his head and she fixed them both a plate. They sat in silence until he realized that Mrs. Eve has yet to walk into the kitchen, "Where is Mrs. Eve?" he asked.

Queenie glanced at him and then replied, "At church."

"Damn, Mrs. E knows that I go with her to church every Sunday after my morning run," he said taking a bite of his coconut bake.

Queenie knew what game her mother was playing, Kayden was a single guy while she was also single. Her mother was playing matchmaker again; she was not about to get shot with cupid's arrow. Two years ago when Queenie opened up her first shop, Eve found her a man. Queenie hated the man the moment she laid eyes on him just as he walked into the YOLO Sushi restaurant and bar. He was one of those snobby nose rich boys.

Just thinking about him, had her blood running cold. Kayden watched while Queenie shivered as she got lost in her thoughts. He couldn't believe this was the woman that Mrs. Eve talked so much about. In the pictures she showed him, Queenie was just a skinny dark-skinned girl, but now she wasn't skinny anymore.

"What do you do?" she asked. She already knew, but she wanted to make small talk.

"English Literature professor," he said. She nodded, "what about you?" he asked as he picked up both their place to wash them.

"I own a chain of salons and restaurants in the city. Soon, I will be opening a salon and club in Richmond."

"How is that going for you?" he asked.

Queenie got caught up in explaining how she started her business. How her mom worked two jobs when her dad got sick and how she contributed to help their family.

Dre left school two years after Queenie, but he never got the job his mother wanted. Instead, he became a drug dealer - one of the biggest kingpins in Richmond. Stasi, however, never finished high school and was out of the picture. Queenie and her mom had helped her father until he took his last breath.

Kayden listened carefully as she explained her life to him. A complete stranger who she felt so comfortable around. She never felt that way around Markus. It was something she had always yearned for in a man. Someone to hold her, someone to listen to her as she tells them about her day.

Her Mama had been right the whole time, Markus was only with her for her money, status. When she needs someone to confide in she went to Drew. Drew's a tall dark-skinned1 guy with pretty dark brown eyes and toned body she met in the club. He was what you'd call her 'side piece'. Drew loved listening to Queenie, he was her comfort when she was down. He was like her knight in shining armor.

Markus was a selfish man, he was part of a gang that did nothing but get wasted and go to strip clubs on weekends. He knew that his girl was messing around, but, what he didn't know, was that it was with the biggest kingpin in the city. Queenie didn't know that Drew was a part of the drug world like her brother, so when Markus threatened to kill him if she didn't leave him be, she got scared.

Markus' cheating was the biggest joke about it. He even had a child with a chick he had met at a club. Queenie was furious, here she was waiting for the day when the man she spent four years with ask her to marry him and he didn't. Instead, he got some hood rat pregnant. She threw all his trash out the window of the mansion she paid for and the things she bought him, she donated to the homeless. Some part of her still loved and cared for him, even though all he did was use her for sex and money.

The knock broke her out of her daydream. Queenie didn't expect anybody because no one knew Belinda Adams was back in town. Kayden got up to see who was by the door and Queenie could have sworn she heard a female voice.

Getting up, she saw a tall light-skinned woman with big breasts and butt and a thirty-two-inch weave flowing down her back. She even heard the word 'baby' slip out her mouth. Here she was pouring out her heart to this man and he had a woman.

These niggas ain't loyal...

Climbing the stairs to her room, she slammed the door making sure he heard it.

Kayden heard the slam alright; he even saw the hint of jealousy written all over her face. He told his lady friend to come back another time since he was busy and closed the door behind her and sat on the sofa with his head in his hands. He didn't mean to make her fall for his charms, he just saw she needed someone to talk to. Getting up from the sofa, he made his way to Queenie's room.

He tried the lock on the door and it wouldn't budge so he knocked but she didn't answer. He knew she was inside because he heard some shuffling and then music playing. Kayden didn't know what else to do so he retired to his bedroom.

Queenie didn't know how was she going to last a couple of months with Kayden under the same roof. She switched off her music, took her towel, and went to shower. Twenty minutes later, she dressed in skinny jeans, a tank top, and her Nike slides. Grabbing her keys and phone, she decided she was going to visit the area her nightclub and salon were going to be.

Pulling out of the driveway, she realized that she needed some time alone. Some time to think and she was going to do just that as she turns up her radio.

Turn down for what!
