thirteen: love in an elevator
"Do you want me to take you home?" Zayn asked after Charlotte left. Louis runs a hand through his hair as he shakes his head, getting ready to climb off the desk.
"No, I drove myself here."
"Can I at least walk you to your car?"
"Aren't you busy?" Louis asks, standing up and crossing his arms over his chest.
"Not really, I can walk you to your car Louis."
"You don't have to do that. I'm perfectly capable of walking myself." Louis says, already walking out of the office before Zayn got the chance to say anything else to him. Zayn lets out a sigh as he watches Louis walk away, seriously wondering what the hell he'd just gotten himself into. He followed Louis out though, jogging so that he could catch up with the younger boy. Louis rolled his eyes when Zayn shows up, shaking his head a little as he continues to walk.
"You don't have to walk so fast." Zayn says, panting a little from his short jog. Louis arched an eyebrow at that, finding it a little ridiculous that Zayn was that out of shape... His body sure as hell didn't show it.
"The sooner I'm out of here, the better." Louis says, picking up the pace on purpose. Zayn groans, seriously considering just letting Louis walk outside on his own.
"That's no way to treat your boyfriend." Zayn calls out, leaning against the hall as Louis reached the elevators. Louis presses the down button before turning around to look at Zyn.
"You're not my boyfriend." Louis calls back, crossing his arms over his chest as he waited for the elevator. It was taking too damn long in Louis' opinion.
"Then what am I?" Zayn asks, walking over to Louis. Louis just stares at him, not really sure what Zayn was trying to do. Zayn was a little too close now, close enough that Louis could touch him.
"What are you doing?" Louis asks, feeling a little uncomfortable with how close Zayn was.... Zayn just chuckles, cupping Louis' cheek before leaning in even closer. Louis' breath hitches and his mind starts to go blank... he wasn't sure what was going on, but it seemed as if Zayn was about to kiss him.
"Zayn..." Louis whispers, placing his hands against the older boys chest as he prepared to push him away. Zayn chuckles before pulling away himself, but not before giving Louis a soft kiss on the cheek.
"You sure you don't want me to walk you to your car?" Zayn asks, fixing his suit as he stands up straight.
"Why are you so determined?" Louis shakes his head, looking at Zayn expectantly. Louis wasn't really sure why, but Zayn seemed to be different than earlier... He seemed calmer, more relaxed... less of an asshole if he was being honest.
"Is it a crime to walk you to your car?" Zayn says, chuckling a little as Louis begins to tap his foot.
"Only when you're the one offering. Why are you being so nice to me?" Louis finally stops beating around the bush and Zayn looks a little shocked at first.
"Figured it was about time we at least tried to be nice to each other. I mean, we are stuck with each other for at least two years." Zayn puts his hands into the pockets of his jeans, shrugging as he looks at Louis. Louis nods at that, biting his bottom lip as he figured that was a good enough reason. Louis let out a sigh though, looking at the elevator to see that it was still on floor three.
"What's taking it so long?" He asks, more to himself than to Zayn.
"Liam's probably stopped it. Ever since my dad moved Niall to a different floor, they've been doing it in the elevator." Zayn says, laughing at how Louis scrunches up his nose. It was a little too adorable and Zayn couldn't help but wonder if their baby was going to have that same trait.
"They're like rabbits."
"Just be glad you didn't have to listen to it while you were trying to work."
"Key word trying." Louis smiles, looking at the elevator again as Zayn lets out a small huff.
"I actually do my job, thank you very much."
"What exactly is your job?" Louis asks, leaning against the wall now. He was really hoping that he wasn't going to have to use the stairs, apparently talking to Zayn was a better alternative.
"I'm in charge of nearly every aspect of my dad's company. He wants me to take over once he officially retires." Zayn smiles, shrugging before joining Louis against the wall. Louis turns his head so he can look at Zayn, smiling softly and nodding occasionally as Zayn continues to talk about his responsibilities. Louis wasn't really listening though, finding himself lost in thought. He wasn't really sure what he was getting himself into and he couldn't help but feel like he'd made a mistake.
"Are you alright?" Zayn asks, a concerned expression on his face. Louis just smiles before nodding, he didn't want Zayn to know that he was having doubts... He didn't want to deal with that right now. It had been a long day and all he wanted to do was go home.
"Just fine, I'm just ready for the elevator to get here already." Louis says, which was really only half of a lie. Zayn doesn't look too convinced though, getting ready to press Louis a little further when the elevator finally made it to the floor. Liam and Niall came stumbling out, their clothes rumbled and Niall's hair was an absolute mess. Niall's cheeks grew instantly red before he rushed out of the elevator, leaving Liam alone with the two other boys. Liam is quiet for a second, his gaze falling on Louis.
"Hey Lou..." Liam says quietly, his tone a little sadder than it usually was.
"Hey..." Louis says awkwardly as he isn't exactly sure where Liam and him stood. An uncomfortable silence falls over the room and for a moment Louis figured that was the end of it... That is until Zayn opened his stupid ass mouth.
"Honestly Liam, the elevator is no place to be procreating."
