Watching his wife reading on their bed, Lindsey was just getting out of the shower for the night, Isabelle being on his mind as Stevie called him back to let him know that Sunday through Wednesday was perfect for their visit. Now he had to tell Kristen and he knew this wasn't going to be easy.
"Hey, hon, can we talk for a moment?" Lindsey asked as he sat down on his side of the bed.
"Of course, sweetie," Kristen placed the bookmark in her book and closed it.
Lindsey scratched the back of his head, here goes nothing. "There's something really...almost, crazy that I need to tell you and I've been having a hard time doing it."
"Lindsey," she placed a hand on his thigh, "You can talk to me, you're my husband."
"I know, sweetie," sighing, "But this is pretty...almost, possibly serious."
"Are you okay?"
"Oh, yes - yes, I'm fine," nodding his head.
"Then what could possibly be bothering you?"
"It's not actually bothering me as I'm afraid of it bothering you."
"Lindsey, stop beating around the bush and just tell me."
"Stevie..." gulping, "Stevie and I have a daughter."
Kristen's eyes widened, sitting up straight against the headboard, "You, what?"
"Yeah. She's thirty years old. Her name is, Isabelle, and she lives in New York."
"What...the fvck? You are just telling me this now? What is this, some kind of sick joke?!"
"No, God, no, baby...No joke, I swear, I didn't even know until four days ago!" holding out his hands.
Throwing the covers off her, she got up from the bed, "And so now what? She is coming back in to your life now because you have some "secret" daughter? Why did she not tell you this until FOUR days ago?!"
"Because of this, this exact thing that you're doing right now!" Lindsey got up from the bed, "She doesn't want to cause any sort of harm to our family but she's been holding out all these years and Isabelle is asking for me."
"Asking for you? Where? When? How?"
"Well, I'm supposed to fly out to New York on Sunday -"
"WHAT?" Kristen placed her hands on her hips, "I suppose, "Stevie," will be joining you?"
"Well, of course - it's her daughter, too."
"This is incredibly fvcked up! Why is it that you have to travel all the way to New York when she can just come here?"
"Because she's pregnant!"
"Oh, Christ! Now you're going to be a grandfather?! Are you sure you're not playing a game with me here because I'm going to get incredibly angry."
He walked over to her side, "Kristen, this is not a game and I couldn't keep it from you any longer. It's been very hard for me to even let this sink in. I've only seen photos of her and I'm flying there for her, not Stevie."
Kristen bit her lip, trying not to cry, "What are we going to tell the kids?"
"Do you really think that they're going to be upset that they have a big sister?" rubbing her arms.
"This is too much," she sat back down on the bed, "I think I'm going to be sick."
Lindsey sat down next to her, rubbing a hand over the back of her head, "There's nothing between Stevie and I," knowing all too well it was a lie.
