Chapter Four: And when I say forever, I mean it lasted a long time

A firm hand rested on my shoulder, slightly shaking me awake. Yawning, I opened my eyes. Connor was kneeling in front of me. "Oh it's you again," I grumbled.

"I was told to come get you. And where's my thanks?"

"We haven't moved yet. I'll thank you when we're back at your house," I retorted.

"It's not mine," he said, helping me stand, "it belongs to the Old Man and he took me in awhile ago."

I nodded. My stomach hurt more than it did yesterday. I couldn't walk well, and Connor held my waist lightly as I draped my arm over his shoulder for support as we walked. And man, it was awkward. Well first off, I didn't exactly want to be this close to a man I barely knew- let alone Connor. Secondly, he had to hunch over a little because he was a good few inches taller than me.

Small animals ran through the bushes, stirring up the sparkling dew droplets that had appeared overnight. The morning was foggy and just over the cliff I could see the sunrise, the light pink spread through the dusty blue sky, blocking the stars out. It was breathtaking.

The walk back wasn't long. But the silence was also awkward.

Connor broke the silence before we reached the house, "I uh. Sorry. About last night."

I could tell he also felt awkward about the situation and didn't exactly have the best social skills. "Achilles told you to apologize didn't he?"

He shrugged. "Possibly."

"Good too see you're still alive," Achilles called from the house as we walked up the front steps, "wolves and bears roam around here at night."

"That'd be a shame if I was attacked," I said as I let go of Connor and sat down on the couch.

"Some people might not think so," Connor murmured.

"Hey! I heard that!"

"Good," with that he walked down the hall, and I heard the back door open and close.

"How do you put up with him?" I asked.

"I don't," Achilles replied. He walked down the hall and I heard rummaging in the kitchen. Shortly after, he was back holding a plate with buttered bread and an apple. "Here, you need to eat and get your energy up. The more you walk around and run, the more the pain is going to worsen. Your choice," he sat on the opposite couch.

"Thank you," I began eating and we were silent for awhile.

Achilles began talking, "Are you ready to tell the truth now, Templar?"

I stopped eating, I might as well tell him. I have nothing to lose. Right? I don't want to be a Templar. It felt wrong to betray the Order. But I want to fight for what's right. Not for something that seeks to control everyone.

"I never wanted to be a Templar. They forced most of their workers into it. They have been planing to capture Desmond Miles, a relative of yours," I pointed to Connor. Who had walked in while I was eating, and was currently leaning against the doorframe.
