Anakin Skywalker held onto Odessa for a few selfish moments.
He didn't move, but merely carried the brunette in his stagnant grasp, grappling with his lucid mind which attempted to persuade him that she was simple heaps of dust, a figment of the horrors of his nightmares. Her head hung loose, lengthened locks reaching for the floor whilst her arm too reached out into the distance. No matter how much time had passed, Anakin hadn't lost his weak spot for her, his movements were soft and careful, everything they hadn't been for the past six years.
His hand graced her cheek, edging the hair away from her face. He had so many questions, ones that only the women in his arms could answer.
"You don't need to be afraid." Only now did he allow his gaze to trail to the two children cowered in the corner, watching him closely whilst they stared down at the bundle of beauty in his arms.
He didn't know how to speak to children, there was no need after Odessa died. And yet before him a carbon copy of himself stood, alongside another mirror image of the woman he loved. Anakin was no fool, they were his, Odessa Tove all those years ago was not just carrying their child, but twins. They had survived, all of them. And he couldn't help but feel his heart break at the fact he was nothing other than a stranger to them, and a traitor in the eyes of the women he had mourned.
They didn't move, but continued to gaze wildly at him. His daughter, Odessa's double was slightly in front of her brother, creating a barrier almost between them. She had a fiery glint in her eye, he knew where that came from "What did you do to our mum?"
Our mum. A strange sensation struck his body. He had missed it all.
Leia looked at him before back down at her mother whose eyes still remained closed. He could tell the clocks were clicking inside her little head, debating on whether to trust the mystery man who was dressed like an enemy, yet spoke with such softness. Anakin stepped closer "Come. Let me get you both and your mother to somewhere safe."
Luke stepped forward now, speaking towards his sister rather than Anakin himself "Mum said to not trust strangers."
"I'm not a stranger." He responded softly yet sternly "I know your mother- now come before the light settles."
There was a moment of audible silence before Anakin muttered under his brief slightly, they were stubborn "You both don't have to leave her side, I promise."
There it was. Anakin hadn't promised anyone anything since he broke the last one he held, he didn't need to. But children in front of him made him sure, the same feeling of dedication and promise which he held with Odesa all those years ago.
