Constitutional Literacy is so boring. I wish Dick was in this class, he would make it fun. After that fiasco at school a few months ago, Dick and I have been trying to hang out more often without Nona knowing. Only once did she almost catch me, and that was only because she had to pick me up early from school one day.
My thoughts were interrupted when I heard the teacher call on me.
"I'm sorry, what did you say Mr. Goudeau?" I asked.
He sighed. "I said we Americans have a right to carry a gun, true or false?"
"Oh, true," I said.
"Correct."
He went on asking questions until the bell rang. There was no P.E. today, so it was time for me to go home.
Nona said she would be busy around this time today, so she told me to walk home.
I started for the front door of school, when suddenly all I saw was my hair.
"Your hair is in your face," said Dick.
"Really?" I drawled.
Every time Dick tries to surprise me, he throws my hair in front of my face and makes a cheeky comment.
"Is Nona waiting for you outside?" he asked.
"No, she's busy; she told me to walk home today," I said.
"Oh, can I walk with you?" he asked.
"Sure, I would like some company," I said smiling at him.
He started walking home with me, and we talked the whole time. Dick told me this crazy story about how he witnessed a Batman and Robin fight. He said they were fighting Poison Ivy at a jewelry store.
"How did you see that? Were you shopping for jewelry?" I asked smirking.
"Very funny, no," he said. "Alfred was driving me home from school, and we passed by it."
"Well, it's not everyday you get to witness a Batman and Robin fight," I said. "You should have caught it on camera."
"We were still driving, I only caught a glimpse of it," he said.
We reached my neighborhood, and I stopped.
"Well, I'll see you tomorrow," I said.
"Yeah," he said.
I started to walked towards my street. I only walked maybe ten steps before I stopped.
I heard Dick struggling. I turned around to a shocking sight.
Two guys were trying to grab Dick, and there was a black van beside them.
I gasped when I saw the sight, but that was a big mistake.
Both the men and Dick looked toward me.
"Caroline, run!" yelled Dick.
He didn't have to tell me twice. I started to run.
"You get her, I'll get the boy in the van," I heard one of the men say.
I heard running behind me. I was about to turn the corner onto my street, but he caught my backpack.
He pulled me back, but I slipped out of my backpack. I was about to scream down the street for help, but a hand covered my mouth.
He picked me up, and started running the opposite way. He ran up to the van and threw me inside.
