The sound of the dry leaves, twigs and dead plant fodder on the ground in the woods being crunched under your worn leather shoes and Levi's uniform boots is the only thing you hear for the following hour as you stumble past him, wishing to the Heavens that you could just go back the camp where at least you didn't feel awkwardly silent.
Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, Levi breaks the tension. "I think that's it," he says stiffly. "Over there, the tall one next to the evergreen."
You scan the surrounding area and nod back when you see the one he is gesturing at. "I think you're right."
The two of you stroll towards the tree, Levi inspecting the trunk with his green eyes.
"Scrape that bark off of here," he tells you, "and stick in this bag." He turns and scans the area, searching for the place you are to mark on the map. You nod and pull out your father's knife, scraping the bark carefully from the trunk.
Suddenly- "Ow!" the knife slips down over the bark and slices through your finger. You curse and drop the knife as the pain shoots through your already-scraped up hand.
"Bozu!" Levi calls, racing back to your side. "What happened?"
You turn and try to hide your finger, afraid of what he might think. But he catches your wrist and pulls your hand close to his face to examine the wound.
"Damn it, kid," he says, and you feel your face begin to flush, your knees begin to weaken. "You need to be more careful." He takes your sliced index finger gingerly between his thumb and forefinger and holds it, wiggling and massaging it gently. The gentle motion sends nervous jitters down your spine, and it's kind of sexy, in a way. "Does that hurt?" Levi asks.
"Yes," you lie to cover the pleasure you'd gotten from the feeling of his hand on yours, gentle and kind. "But- I'm okay."
"Stupid, you need to stop hurting yourself," he replies. "You got bark in it, baka. I'll get infected unless we clean it out."
"But- camp is over an hour away," you protest. "And we don't have any water."
"Put it your mouth," he says. The words sent a sensual jolt down your spine, but you fight the sensation.
"My mouth is dry," you admit. "I've been so busy trying to make sure everyone else has water, I've not had enough myself."
Levi glares at the wound. "Well you have to get that shit out before it gets bad," he said, and before you knew what was happening, he took your hand and stuck your injured finger in his own mouth.
You hiccup in shock as the warmth of his mouth spreads from your icy cold fingers to the rest of your body. Your legs begin to tremble and you fight the new, pleasurable sensations spreading lustfully through you.
"Ah- Levi-s-san... you really don't have to-"
He sucks gently on your finger until it's cleaned, then releases it.
You take a deep breath to sturdy your shaking body and turn away, hiding your beet-red face. Your warm, sticky finger quickly dries and cools with the chilling air. Levi tears a strip of fabric from his uniform shirt and wraps it tightly around your finger.
"Th-thank you. Again."
He looks sideways at you, then his expression softens. "Yeah, just be more careful, okay?"
You step closer to him, closing the gap. "Okay," you whisper.
He steps backward, and your heart sinks. You glance back to tree, and the knife in your hand, a ruby droplet of your blood on the end. It glistens dark red before dripping off the tip of the knife, and Levi takes the blade from your hand.
"Maybe you should rest, and let me do the rest," he says quietly.
"Okay."
