Sasha's Confession

Over next few days you and Levi are inseparable, each hardly leaving the other's side except when absolutely necessary. It just feels so good to be with him, you wish the trip was forever instead of just over a week.

One of the rare occasions you are apart, however, is when Levi is called away to help Ham learn to fish off the boat, despite there being enough food. This particular day you spend rope-tying the way Mikasa had taught you the day before, while she herself was curled up in a hammock staring absently at the wall, fiddling with the loosened leather straps around her legs.

About noon, there comes a knock at the cabin door. You glance at Mikasa, silently asking for permission to answer it. Her expression doesn't change, giving you the go-ahead. So you stand, place the ropes behind you, and pad to the door, standing on your tiptoes to peek out the peep-hole. It's Sasha, her arms full of crates of worn, tattered ropes. She totters into the room, wheezing slightly.

"Hey, Sasha. What's with all the ropes?"

Sasha rests the bin on her empty hammock and leans back, resting her arms and cracking her back. "Ahh..." She twists her body, and you hear the 'crack' and shiver. "These are the extra sail ropes and need to be re-tied and knotted before we replace the old ones. So let's get to work," she says chirpily.

The two of you sit cross-legged by the barrel and each snatch a rope. You begin re-tying them.

"Hey, Bo," Sasha says after a moment, using the shortened version of 'bozu' that you have come to loathe. "So, you're dating the Heichou, if I'm not mistaken."

"Yeah," you say, shrugging. A blush rises to your cheeks, and you smile timidly. "It took some convincing. He wasn't interested in love before... well, I don't know when he changed his mind.

"Speaking of being interested in love," a mumble comes from behind you, where Mikasa is moping. "Sasha, when are you gonna tell me what your plans for my brother are for when we get back to the mainland?"

Sasha turns scarlet. "What! N-nothing! I don't know what you're... uhm..." she stutters nervously. "You're crazy."

"Whatever, Potato Girl," chides Mikasa. "Just remember, I'm his sister and I'll kick your ass if you try anything naughty."

Potato Girl? you wonder.

"A-anyway, I'm pretty sure he has feelings for someone else."

Mikasa sits bold upright. "'WHO IS SHE'?" Her voice is a growl, her words less of a question than a demand.

"I- uhm- actually... think he... likes... a guy," she says, hiding behind the crate. Here, Sasha Blouse, member of the fearless Survey Corps, Titan-killer and badass warrior, not afraid of Titans or of death, is terrified of telling Mikasa that her brother might be gay. The thought seems absurd, until you see the fire in Mikasa's eye, remembering suddenly how Levi had described her as humanity's strongest female warrior, and a shiver runs down your spine.

"Who is he then?" she amends, her voice barely audible.

Sasha peeks at you, her eyes crinkled apologetically. "I've seen the way he looks up to Heichou Levi," she mumbles. "I was pretty sure they were together until Levi-sama made it clear that he loves you." Her gaze drifts back to Mikasa, and you notice her expression relax.

"Well, then, there's no problem," she says, reclining back in the hammock. "Levi's taken, so there's nobody for me to shoot up right now."

Sasha breathes a sigh of relief and sits back upright. The two of you continue twisting rope and knotting them up, making a pile next to the crate. "Anyway, it doesn't really matter in the end," Sasha says after a moment. "We're all alive, we have each other, and Levi isn't lonely anymore. I say things are going very well."

If only she hadn't spoken so soon.
