I didn't go home knowing i'd be met by a police man. I went straight to the Teton national park which happened to be less then a mile from where we lived. Well, where i lived. I was starving by noon and was almost there, i hoped Edith was home, otherwise i felt like i would have to eat a squirrel or something.
I walked to Jenny Lake and sure enough a little house on the edge of it poked out from under neath some vegetation. She stood in her doorway, a smile stretched across her wrinkly face. I said nothing and she invited me into her arms immediately. I began to cry, i don't know why it must of been her warmth that made me feel like i was with mother.
"Come inside, sweetie i have something you need to see." Hopefully it was food. Edith was an elderly woman who found me when i was younger walking along the trails of the park. Dad was still alive and i was with him, i got lost though. She showed me her magic. It was beautiful, she could heal a broken tree branch with just the folding of her hands.
I followed her inside and was met by familiar pink and blue glasses hanging from her bramble ceiling. She placed some scrambled eggs in front of me as i sat down in her vine work of furniture.
I quickly dove in. "geese, did you eat before you came?" I shook my head. She raised her brow and laughed quietly. "You have a secret your not telling me." I said bluntly. "She always bits the skin on her thumb when she's got secrets.
The long golden bracelets on her wrists jingled as she sat down beside me. "You are a blessed child, Kason, and you won't believe me when i tell you this." she began. I finished eating and began to listen to what she had to say.
"You have a power you posses." she began. I rolled my eyes. She ignored me and continued. "You can change your form." she said quietly. "No i can't." I laughed."Your making this up to make me feel better." i told her. She frowned.
"It's a special gift Kason very few posses it and no one as young as you has used it." She put her hands on my shoulders. "Edith, please, there is no such thing, how is it that you would know this and my own mother didn't." I argued. She shook her head. "She died before she could know."
I removed her hands from my shoulders and stood up. "Kason you can't keep running away from what's true!" I stormed out shoving my hands in my pockets and pulling my beanie more over my head. A cold wind hit me in the face making me shiver.
She stopped me by standing in front of me. "If your ever curious, just think of the worst thing that's ever happened to you then close your eyes and bring it to life." I didn't even hear everything she said. I walked past her and deeper into the woods.
I walked down by cascade canyon and avoided camping sights and tourist trails. I walked to Mount Owen and surprisingly got there by sundown. Lucky me, my phone died at 8:43 pm. I walked up a small rocky part and found a small ledge.
I didn't care anymore, someone's going to find me sooner or later why wouldn't it be here. I shivered from the cold and just scooted to the back of the ledge. I laid down and fell asleep, after all i only got two hours of sleep after watching my mom's breathing patterns and coughing every now and then, she died quietly. That was good.
