"Violet!"
I continued running through the forest ahead.
"Violet! It's me!"
I turned a sharp right and then saw her tail slip by. I ran faster trying to catch up but my lungs refused. I slowed down unable to run any further. For all I know, Oliver is dead, Edith is somewhere looking for me, and Miltius is a crazy psycho path who just tried to hurt Violet. Not on my watch. I'm staying with her. She's not going to leave me as quickly Shelbi did.
I turned to the cat and prowled around, looking to see if Violet were around. I heard barks behind me and I already knew they sent out Dylan to come snap my spine in half. I ran in front of me, still tired but still moving forward.
"Get on!"
Violet crashed through the thickets and I jumped onto her back. She was a beautiful white horse. Reminding me of ShadowFax from Lord of the Rings. Whatever. She sped through now loosing the barks and growls behind me.
"How do we get home?" I asked.
"Where?!"
"To where I came from, not this forest.' I said trying to explain.
She rode harder toward a rocky terrain. I held onto her mane and turned to myself. Not having a saddle is much different when riding a horse. Especially one at full speed. I slipped off here and there but I stayed on squeezing my thighs as hard as I could against her sides. She turned and headed straight for a wall of rock. I would have to climb with a rope or one of those belt things they have at those rock climbing facilities. She sprinted for it.
"Whoa, whoa! What are you doing!!!"
We ran into the rock but didn't. Huh? I opened my eyes and saw she was still running only on the other side of the rock wall. We were in a cave and all I could hear were her hoofs clicking against the stone floor. We came out into daylight and I immediately figured out where we were. We were in the woods that Edith stays in, with her small little cottage on the side of a pond just west of Tanton mountain. I was home. She slowed to a trot, breathing heavily. When she walked I slid off and fell. "Ow." i muttered, standing up and rubbing my tail bone. It was sore from when I fell on it earlier. She turned to the arctic fox and crawled over my shoulder. "Hey-" I laughed as she tickled my neck. She hung over it loosely, like she were a scarf.
I walked out the park and toward my aunt's house. "I don't know what happened to Oliver, but I saw the end of that blade peeking through the back of his head." I said quietly. Violet looked full of concern. Mom had the same look when I did something stupid, like run my mouth off at her or not do what she told me. Now I regret it and wished I was the best son she ever had. "There are no magics in that camp that can raise the dead. Not from what I heard." She whispered in my ear. Great. Life seems to be just pouring out from me, slowly, silently. Dad,Mom,Oliver, what next Edith? I'd be dead before I see anyone touch Violet in harm. From what I saw today, I'm not letting her out my sight.
"Bright eyes," She looked up at me and I glanced in her direction. I pulled my beanie out from my pocket and slipped it on. "Miltius, is a bad man. He wants me to kill. I don't want to Bright eyes, I don't want to do that anymore."
Now everything makes more sense. the wheels in my brain finally began to turn. "He's been doing that to get people scared, he didn't want anyone to see you, he didn't want a chosen one." I said getting it now.
"I lied to him."
"That's why he knew I was going to die, he thought he was this Chosen Person."
I continued walking, putting my hands in my pockets as a cold breeze bit my face. Okay, I got this now. Greedy people, evil dads, and purple vested people. Sounds about right for my life. I spotted a couple of kids playing soccer in the street. "What are they doing?" She asked. "Playing soccer."
