I sat in the forest far from the camp, feeling my mother's scarf that I found in my pocket. Everyone left me alone, luckily. Whatever I was getting myself into it was no good. I heard a growl and quickly stood up. My first reaction was to close my eyes and think. What am I doing? I opened my eyes and ran farther into the forest. Then I realized I was running weirdly with my arms and my legs. Then I looked in between my legs and saw a black tail. Not again.
I couldn't even run straight. I heard barks and howls from behind me and I tumbled around trying to regain my balance. I stopped and sneezed cutely. Could this get any worse? Then the barks quieted and I heard footsteps loud and clear. My ears flew in the direction it came from and my body spun around, instinctively. A wolf, growled inches from my small pink nose. I'm so dead. The wolf gave a toothy grin and I slowly backed away.
Then I saw an orange cat walk up and curl it's tail under the wolf's nose. It pawed at the small orange cat, barking. It hissed then laid down in front of it purring. The wolf rolled it's eyes and grew to a boy.Dylan. I closed my eyes and thought something happy, there's not much in my life. I was myself, again. Dylan chuckled. "Did I scare the little kitty?" He laughed. I pulled my beanie farther over my eyes. "No." I shoved my hands in my pockets and walked away. The orange cat rubbed against my legs as I walked. Then it turned to Vitta, who stood in my way.
"Where you think your going?" She asked, arms folded.
I ignored her and continued walking. Then Dylan stood in my way. Dylan really was on my nerves, and he was jumping on them. He really is a jerk for one hurting Shelbi and another, hurting me. "I would of never thought you could change, you seemed like the psychic type of guy." He said walking backwards.
I was so angry at that moment I could slug him in the face. That would've felt good. Suddenly the air got thinner and I stopped. He stopped also. We both stared at each other for a while then he chuckled and walked back to Vitta. I continued walking. I turned around, once I was cooled off and headed for the camp. Oliver appeared in front of me, big smile on his face, waving to fast for me to reply. "Come here." He held out his hand.
"Not this time, I need some rest, and I need to see Edith." I said nodding my head.
He frowned then disappeared. That's just super cool, telepathic whatever it was, I wanted it. Not this stupid cat powers. There's literally nothing I could do with it. I turned to the cat,Hey look I can turn into a cute little kitten! Adorable right? This would change everything in yearbook pictures. The camera man wouldn't snap it the one time I stop looking at the camera or when I cough and sneeze. Girl's will love it! I thought to myself sarcastically.
A swift movement made me spun around. Some twigs snapped and I just stared into the bushes, terrified. My hair stood on end and I walked forward on my tip toes. Something white flew behind a tree. I meowed. Which was cool, it felt weird to. It wasn't like I was talking but like shouting. I hummed and I purred. I sat down and laid down and threw my paws in the air. Play dead, then it will go away. Something swept past me and I stayed, tongue hanging out my mouth.
"BOO!" An arctic fox jumped on me and I screamed and ran. I toppled over and rolled still trying to run. I looked over and saw it trotting next to me, so it seemed I wasn't running fast at all. I finally stopped, tired of my sprint/roll. The fox sat across from me tilting it's head. It had a black streak on it's paws like mittens. "Your funny." it giggled, ears flopping to one side. I went to speak but instead came out a cracked meow. It giggled some more. She mimicked the noise and I was puzzled.
"You must be new." She said whipping her tail around and petting it with her paws. "I'm Violet." She said. I finally calmed down and turned to myself the same time she did. A girl with white hair, as white as snow grinned and looked me up and down. She had purple, well, violet eyes. Interesting. "So your a boy." She said folding her arms. I didn't reply I still stared into her beautiful eyes. Was she like the princess or something because why isn't she with someone? She could- I stopped there. I didn't even know her. Why should I care? I pulled my beanie farther over my head. "I'm Kason." I said quietly. I sounded wimpy, which I hadn't intended on. "I -uh- like your hair." I had to say something! She smiled. "Your fun!" She took my hand and ran. What in the world was going on? I didn't even know her! Where is she taking me?!
I ran with her, surprisingly. We came to a small pond with white pebbles at the bottom and bright blue waters. I looked in and saw my reflection. My face was smudged with dirt and my hair was ratted outside my beanie. Real classy. I didn't bother fixing it. "This is a spot I use when I'm sad, which isn't often. I see you get angered easily, you can use it if you want, you'll find it really soothing." she said leaving me and turning to her fox and running off. I sat there looking into the water. It was soothing and calm. I wish I could turn- I became my cat and jumped in. The water was refreshing, better then anything I've seen in this forest so far. My fur frizzed which was really uncomfortable. I quickly got out and just looked in the water, breathing.
When I opened my eyes and saw Dylan was sitting next to me, himself, and grinning, amused. I turned away and rapped my tail around my paws. Is there any alone time in this world? He grabbed me, suddenly and didn't let go squeezing me tight. I frantically clawed and bit at his arm. He let go, smirking. I saw the large claw mark on his for arm. "I can stomp your little tail into the ground, if you say anything to Vitta about Shelbi." He growled. Yeah, sure I'd scratch your eyes out, then you won't be able to look at any girls. I grinned and trotted away.
When I got back to the camp, it was night fall and everyone was inside their little red tents. Not like the cheap ones you'd find at Wal-Mart but the cool yurt looking ones. Edith showed me mine, well I had to share it with Oliver. I couldn't sleep so I just laid there, thinking about my viola and how I totally just abandoned it. I LOVED IT WITH MY LIFE. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. I turned on my side and saw Oliver was awake also. "Hey." I whispered. He looked up at me from his sleeping bag. "Do you know anybody named Violet?" I asked him. I saw a small grin curl on his tiny lips. "Follow me." He stood up and held out his hand. I hesitated, then I grabbed his hand and he helped me up. What a relief.
He led me out our tent and to an orchard full of orange trees blossoming. We walked down a path and into a meadow. The sun would rise soon, I felt like I was somewhere in medieval times. Not being able to tell time, I don't think either of us had a watch. We came to a small white tent, smaller then theirs. He pointed at it and nodded.
"Who is she?" I asked.
Oliver just shrugged. Might as well ask Edith, she'll know, she's part of this whole magic world thing. I put my hand in my pocket and felt my mother's scarf. Soft to touch and made me smile. I closed my eyes for a moment remembering the times she wore it. Pretty much everyday. I opened my eyes and saw that I was alone, inches from her tent.
Oliver left me, and I don't know how to get back.
