~(Aurora's Pov)~

Jake didn't leave again. I would've seriously hunted him down this time if he had. He wasn't really here either. He was like a ghost, haunting the house. He was waiting for the call from Charlie. The one saying Bell had died. Everyone knew it was coming. It was a gray area, with them being abroad. The pack wouldn't leave LaPush to enforce the treaty, but if they ever came back it would be inevitable.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Cullens all disappeared in the coming days. They wouldn't be able to return. Even if it wasn't in our lifetime, the pack would remember. They were still here though. You could smell them from across the river.

We were living in the calm before the storm. It was torture. The stress had infested my dreams. The beach offered a brief sanctuary. It felt wrong to be doing nothing while so much hung in the air but that was all there was to do.

A howl cut through my peace. It was Jake. He was calling the pack.

The storm finally broke.

There is no one around so I strip and shift quickly. The sea swallows my clothes, it wouldn't be the first time I had to retrieve a drowned outfit.

My mind was flooded with a million different images and thoughts. Jake had seen Bella, she was alive. But she was dying, something was killing her. Something from the inside. Her baby. She was pregnant. With a vampire's child and it was killing her.

It wasn't hard to find a path to the lumber yard a few miles out. I could feel everyone else coming too.

Everyone was yelling over each other in total chaos. Sam's hackles were sticking straight up, and he was growling in an unbroken stream as he paced back and forth around the top of the ring. Paul was in his place with Jared, shadowing Sam. Their ears were both flat, matching the agitated energy of the circle where low snarls were erupting.

I could hear Jake's worry. He thought they were mad at him. He was too overrun with his own thoughts to hear the real source of their anger. I could see their thoughts about the baby. Their anger and more importantly their fear. Everyone was scared of it.

'How can this be? What does it mean? What will it be?'

'Not safe. Not right. Dangerous"

'Unnatural. Monstrous. An abomination.'

 'We can't allow it.'

It would be a baby, wouldn't it? It would be Bella's baby. A legacy like her, with vryokolak blood in its veins. The pack was pacing, but Jake was sitting in the middle next to Seth. I had found my own place near the back. In any other circumstance, I would be by Paul but he was in the thick of the fray. I wasn't pacing but digging my claws into one of the logs. It was crumbling to dust as the thoughts continued.

'The treaty does not cover this.' It did not cover it because it should've been impossible. Of course, when has the impossible ever stopped anything from happening before?

'This puts everyone in danger.' It could. There is no telling what the child would be like. It was still a baby though. It would have to grow before it posed a real threat.

Jacob showed more images. The bruises it had left on Bella. Jake burning Edward. He was still overwhelmed. His feelings for Bella were too strong for him to focus on.

I retreated into my own mind. It didn't cut them off, it just pulled my thoughts in more. Like hiding in a corner. Someone would have to be looking to find me and at the moment, with the current torrent, I doubt anyone would. Even Paul was too caught up to notice.

'They fear it, too.'

'But they won't do anything about it.'

'Protecting Bella Swan.'
