~(Jake's Pov)~

I was running the perimeter with Seth when another voice broke through. It was less a voice and more a tangle of thoughts.

'Rosie?' I called, she wouldn't have followed me. She cared about Bella but she also had Paul.

There was a sad howl at the name. It was her.

'Aurora! Now our pack has three!' Seth was still running along the far side of the perimeter. He was just happy to be there and that we wouldn't be alone.

'Seth, stay focused' I reminded him.

'I'm here. Where do you need me?' She was still running to join us. Her pain was palpable. She had left her imprint to join us and could physically feel the loss.

'Rosie, what are you doing here?'

'I'm helping you and protecting Bella. Now, what's the plan?' She was forcing her emotions down. She didn't want to think about having to fight Paul any more than Seth did Leah.

'Me and Seth are running perimeter. Go guard the house' She was the most experienced fighter. I don't trust just the leeched to protect Bella, not when two of them aren't even there. Rosie would have no problem keeping the pack back with them. And Paul for sure won't hurt her.

'DON'T!' Her thoughts snapped at me.

'I didn't mean it like that'

'I don't care how you meant it'

She changed her course to avoid us all together, running straight to the house.

'Hey guys, Esme and the doc are on their way back. They just passed me' Seth updated us. Edward had recalled them as soon as I told him everything. They were on their way back from hunting.

'Thanks, Seth' We were almost done

'I'll go with them back' She had sped up now. Her mind tracked the blur of the forest as she passed it.

'I'm sorry' I call after her

'Me too' and she's gone

Rosie had shifted when we got back, she was wearing a new robe that must've belonged to one of the Cullens. If we thought the quiet was strange, Paul's silence must be deafening for her. She was talking to Bella, who was lying down on the couch. The blonde vampire hovered nearby but Bella was smiling. She was letting Rosie feel the baby kick.

I don't know how she could stand to touch that thing. The bruises it had left on Bella were grotesque and she looked sicker by the minute.

Bella fell asleep in the middle of their conversation, leaving Rosie standing there not knowing what to do. She slowly removed her hand and covered Bella with the blanket. I could hear Edward tell her it was fine, that she was just tired. Like anything about this situation was fine.

"I take it we're sleeping here?" Rosie asked, coming down the steps to me.

I nodded my head yes. The sun had already begun to set and I knew she had been up early today. Dad had needed help fixing a patch in the boat, we were planning on going fishing tomorrow. I don't know what he'll think when neither of his kids comes again, each for the second time. I wonder if Paul will still hang around the house and keep him company or if he'll avoid the house like the bad reminder it is. I can barely stand to be away from Bella and she's not my imprint. I can't imagine what it feels like to be away from a real one. And to not only be away from them but to have chosen to leave. Knowing you might have to fight them.

She was looking around the trees. "I'm shifting. You think one word about Paul and I'll go inside and sleep with the vrykolakas". She wasn't kidding.

She shifted and went further down to settle near the river, out of sight by the boundary line. She liked being near the water. And if she is the most powerful near it, it couldn't hurt. If she could make a waterwall like she did a few months ago, we might not have to fight at all. It was strong enough to keep a wolf back.
