Red and Black (Les Mis fanfic)

Chapter 4

The time was here.
After General Lamarque's death was announced, the students decided to raise the barricades right on the next day.

Now they were all standing in the crowd, while Lamarque's carriage was passing on one of the big streets. Anna was on Enjolras' right sight , when he began :

"Do you hear the people sing,
singing the song of angry men? ..."

Anna joined immediately , followed by the others. Enjolras nodded at Marius and popped on the street waving the red flag of freedom. Marius and Anna did the same, followed by Coufeyrac, Comferberre, Joly, Gavroche and everyone else.The horsemen turned around, as the "school boys" (and girls) climbed on the carriage and sang even louder. Enjolras, Marius and Anna were standing at the front.

But they were soon stopped by the horsemen. Everybody pointed their guns at them.

"Steady!" Enjolras commanded.

Then there was a gunshot. Somebody killed an innocent woman! The boys found him and took him out of his hiding place.

Then everything turned chaotic.

There were bullets flying everywhere. Running people. Enjolras took Anna's hand and they jumped on a horse, following Marius. They jumped off, when reaching the café and let the horse free.

"Throw your furniture! Get everything!" people were shouting at the apartments.

Soon the barricade was formed.

They all sat down quietly. None would admit it, but they were all frightened of what's coming.

"I sent a man to look in their lines. He will find out their plans." Enjolras said, sitting next to Anna.

"Really? That's good. Who was he?" she asked.

"A volunteer."

Anna didn't say anything , but she had a very bad feeling about this. She couldn't just trust people like that.
She was very afraid in her head. That's why even she was quiet. Anna was glad that she spend her, maybe, last days with Enjolras. He was so kind , and gentle and loveable.
Enjolras put his arm around her shoulder and decided to cheer her up. He bent to her ear and started to whisper sweet nothings into her year. She couldn't resist, but to chuckle.

But their little game was interrupted by a shout:

"He is back!"

Enjolras climbed up the barricade and went to open a door for him to enter.

He started explaining how he's been in their camp and stuff, but Anna couldn't listen, because she recognized him.
It was inspector Javert. She opened her mouth right when he was saying how there will be no attack in the night and how they intend to starve them out:

"Liar!"

But her shout was one with Gavroche's. He had recognized this snake too.

Javert tried to fight at first and hit everyone in his way, including Enjolras, which got Anna furious, so she knocked him out with the massive leg of one table. They took his weapons and tied him in the café.

Then they heard the sounds of hundreds of feet marching. Their enemy was here.
