The first battle has begun.

Everyone inside the barricade jumped on his feet. Anna saw a small group of soldiers trying to surprise them by quietly passing on the left side, while the most of the enemies were attacking the centre .

Enjolras ran into the big battle, but Anna shouted:

"On the left! Follow me!"

She ran and started shooting with her gun. Coufeyrac and Jean joined her.

But the soldiers didn't give up quickly. They kept coming and shooting back. Some were even trying to strike the revolutionaries with spikes.

Finally , after what seemed like ages, the group on the left gave up.

Anna, tired, hardly feeling her legs and arms turned to see what was happening in the centre. She saw Marius climbing with a barrel of gunpowder. A soldier pointed his gun at him and right when he shot an arm pulled the gun out of his hands.

Quickly, Anna shot the soldier in the head and then she saw who pulled out the gun.

She gasped, tears filling her eyes.

It was Éponine.

Anna dropped her gun and ran to her friend. She didn't realize what was happening around her.

"'Ponine...." she started her voice breaking.

"Anna... Please... Marius." Éponine coughed. "I want... T-to see him before I sleep." She barely had any strength to speak.

"B-but you'll live! You will live Éponine!" tears were rolling down Anna's face.

"You'll live, sister!" Gavroche sat on the other side of his sister. His eyes were filled with tears. His sister was all he had all these years. She was the only one he truly loved in his family. "YOU WILL!" he shouted.

Suddenly Courfeyrac pulled the little boy and took him away.

Anna felt two strong hands lift her up. She resisted, shouted between her tears. The man took her on the second floor of the café , passing through Javert's curious, yet satisfied look.

The hands let her go near the corner and Anna fell on the floor, her back on the wall and dug her face in her knees, sobbing.

She felt two strong hands taking hers. She lifted her head and finally saw Enjolras, who had such a sad look on his face. He slowly wrapped his arms around her and she continued crying on his shoulder.

After a while, when her body stopped shaking and the tears ended she asked what happened. Enjolras let go of her and explained how Marius saved them.

But Anna saw the scared and concerned look on his face and tried to comfort him -

"Everything will be alright , don't worry."

"No, it's not. I failed as a leader . I led my friends to death." Anna could see his eyes watering.

She didn't know how to comfort him. How to ease his pain. She knew if the people did not rise, they'd be doomed.

So she just squashed his hand and said :

"Men don't cry."

Enjolras chuckled.

"How can you say stuff like that in this moment?!" he laughed.

"Come on! I am a talent!" she joked.

He kissed her gently.

"Let's see what's going on down there, huh?" he asked.

"Alright."

Enjolras told Coufeyrac to take the watch, because they might attack before the sun raised.

They sat on the ground , next to the ABC café ' entrance, when Grantaire started a song:

"Drink with me, today's gone by..."

Everyone joined.

After the song ended, Anna went to Marius.

"How are you?" she asked.

"I only had a day with her." He said. His voice was full of pain. "Because of my blindness."

"But you had it." Anna said.

"Now, at least I'll die soon, so I'd be with her in the heaven." He said hopefully.

"Try to kill as much as you can, before you do." Anna told him, tapped him on his back and went back to Enjolras to spend her last hours with the person she loved the most of all.
