Cold.

What was before me was a cold, dark room with dingy, stone walls and no light except that which peeked through the gaps in the door. This was not a home, this was a prison, and why it was in the Malfoy manor, I would never understand.

"Hello, precious child," the man with no nose hissed.

"Hello," I replied, softly.

One had to be rather careful when talking to the Dark Lord himself.

"So, I have heard that you are interested in joining us as a Death Eater," he slurred slightly, "Is this true?"

"Of course, my Lord," I said, bowing, "It would be the greatest honour."

"And... What makes you worthy, child?" He snapped.

"I am able to perform the job of a double agent, of sorts," I told him, a devilish grin on my face, "I have connections with other houses."

"Do you, now?" Voldemort retorted. He spun around, and looked me in the eyes, "And if it came to it, you would betray a friend to stay loyal to me, your Lord?"

I nodded, "Of course, my Lord. Anything to serve you well."

"Very well then," he purred, "You may become one of us. This journey is not easy, and you may die."

He moved closer towards me, and pulled my arm out. I only realised what he was doing when I screamed out. I was in excruciating pain.

He was branding me with the Dark Mark. He finished, and smiled at me, tongue flicking out as he placed an arm around me.

And with that, he was gone.

I shivered slightly, following him out of the door. That wasn't me at all, but it almost felt good to say. I was proving myself to someone, and he believed me to be trustworthy.

Draco's arm linked with mine as soon as we were far away from the manor. Of course, his family and Voldemort had thought it completely normal that we left together.

"So," he said, "Did he accept you?"

I pulled up my sleeve to show him my Dark Mark, and he did the same.

"You really didn't have to do this," Draco sighed, "That never comes off, you know?"

"In fact," I stated, "The muggles have invented tattoo removal systems."

"Are you serious? I didn't think they were capable of that," Draco chirped, mildly impressed.

I nodded, "I hope we get through all this and are able to get it removed."

Draco squeezed my hand, our arms still linked.

"Of course we will," he said but even I could hear the doubt leaking through his confident sentence.
