I stood, gobsmacked, at the entrance to the pitch.
Draco had covered the whole area in rose petals - he was bloody lucky he could perform magic - and in the middle of it was a large blanket with a picnic basket. Cliché, but he had my heart racing.
I knew I still wanted to be with him, but this happened time and time again. Something didn't want us to be together.
"Evelyn," he said, walking over. He held out a hand.
"Draco," I greeted. I didn't take his hand, but I stood beside him as if I would go with him.
He led me to the centre of the pitch. That's when I looked up and noticed that he'd bewitched the arena to have every other stand filled with candles.
"Draco," I started, "You really didn't-"
"I know I didn't," he said. He looked at the ground and gulped, "I wanted to. I... I n-need you in my life, Evelyn. I owe you this. I know I've chosen cruel words in the past and I know, for Merlin's sake I know, that I've been horrible and I don't deserve you at all. But I deserve happiness - everyone does. And you're the only one who is capable of making me feel that way."
I reached out for his hand and giggled when I noticed he was sweating. I felt bad that he got so nervous over this.
"I'm sorry," I replied. "I should've trusted you. You were talking to Crabbe and Goyle, loyal You-Know-Who followers. I was so blind. It just hurt so much, regardless of what you meant by it or what you didn't mean. I got out of control."
"We owe each other this moment," he smiled.
I nodded at him.
"What's in the basket?" I asked, nosily.
"Well, there's two things," he smirked.
"If it's condoms, or something like-"
"I'm not that perverted!" Draco squealed.
I looked at him with widened eyes, "That perverted? Suggesting you are of a perverted nature?"
Draco sighed, "Every man is."
"Anyway," I cut him off from rabbiting on about it, "What's in there?"
"There's food and drinks. Then there's something that you won't be seeing until later on," he said, with confidence.
Whatever it was, he knew I was going to like it.
He pulled out piles of food, to sandwiches and crisps to finely-sliced chocolate cake and jam tarts, a range of meats, vegetables and fruits. The drinks were less varied, but he had fizzy drinks, hot drinks and water.
Now I understood why the blanket took up so much space.
Pigging out at the same time as Draco, we occasionally shared glances and laughed at each other with hamster-like cheeks.
But soon, it was almost time for us to go. It would be curfew in half an hour, and even magic wouldn't take seconds to clear all that up.
I sighed, thinking of my lack of magic. I was envious of Draco.
An arm slid around my shoulder, and I turned to see Draco's face inches away from mine. He turned my body and pressed his lips to mine softly, lovingly.
He pulled away for a second, and something cold touched my neck as he reached behind me.
I heard him fiddling with a clasp, and I knew it was a necklace. When he did it up, I looked down to see a beautiful hare necklace.
I immediately hugged him, saying, "Thank you! Thank you, thank you, thank you!"
"Calm down," he chuckled, his hand resting on the small of my back, "It's alright. It's the least I could do."
"No, really," I whispered to him, "It's amazing."
I kissed him again, each time more magical than the last.
"I'll go," I told him, "You have twenty minutes to clean this up, and I don't want to be in the way."
I began to leave, and he called after me,
"Oh, and Evelyn?"
"Yeah?" I called back.
"Be expecting something at your dorm when you get back."
