The ride to school is awkward and silent. The silence is broken now and then when Rosie opens her mouth to say a comment about how this "elephant" is following her everywhere. It's not just you Rosie, it's all of us. As soon as dad pulls up to the circle in front of the school I feel as if this weight is being lifted off my shoulders. I open the car door and climb out quickly, but carefully. I grab my backpack and close the door. Rosie hops out of the car and barely has time to shut it because dad has already started to drive away. I walk on the concrete ramp that leads to the front doors of the school. I push one aside and see Zoe running around shoving fliers into students faces.

"Come help the car wash this Saturday!" She says, running over to a boy who doesn't even seem to care about anything. He looks at her for a quick second, then slouch/walks to his locker. I hike up my big girl pants and walk over to her. She lets her hand with the flier in it fall to her side.

"Just take the damn flier and throw it away. I just need to get rid of them." She fumes. She turns in my direction, already with her game face on.

"You are so late! You were supposed to be here earlier to help me hand out these fliers!" She yells. A nice hello might have been to much to ask for.

"I know. I'm sorry. This weekend was just a lot." I mumble before walking towards my locker. Zoe scoffs and follows behind me waving her fliers.

"You said that last week, and the week before that, and the week before that! Manon, start taking responsibilities. Since I've been handing these out since six this morning, you will be handing them out at lunch and after school. Why six this morning you must be wondering. Well, I went to get these printed downtown and all these parents from our school were walking to their jobs so as a smart sales lady I gave them a flier. Their kids will have to do it now." She says handing a poor girl a flier.

"I can't after school." I say quietly.

"No! No way out of this. There is no way around this. You do it. I will find a good threat to threaten you with later, but for now you do it!" She says before turning to chase after a teacher, yelling something about a deal. I sigh and slowly put my books in my locker, feeling the Monday blues find their way into my head. I move all my college folders to the bottom of my locker.

"Funny seeing you here." A voice says behind me. I quickly spin around, startled. I was off in my own world thinking about...stuff. A boy, all too familiar stands behind me.

"Callum." I whisper. I'm a little disappointed that Callum is here. I wanted what happened in the hospital, to stay in the hospital. Instead of ignoring him and walking away towards first period I do a dumb thing and engage in the conversation he obviously wants to start.

"Well, this is the only high school in town so it's not that funny." I say. Callum's smile shrinks a little.

"Yeah," He says with a small laugh. He rubs the back of his neck and looks down at his coffee. "I better not spill this on you this time." He say's, trying to change the small subject that is on the conversation table.

"Were you home schooled? I mean, since you didn't go here before." I say. He looks at his coffee and throws it away in the trashcan next to my locker.

"Yeah. My mom said I should go to highschool this year. It's complicated." He says.

"It's October. You started a little late." I say. My eyes already feel heavy and I just want to go to class. He nods again.

"You want to continue keeping tabs?" He says in a joking way, but I don't find it funny. He seems a lot different here than he did in the hospital. Maybe it's just because it's his first day at highschool. He seems more reserved and quiet. Thats kind of the same thing. He doesn't seem as light and joyous. The bell rings and I quickly grab all the things I need, trying not to forget anything since I'm rushing. Callum opens his mouth to say something else to me, but my locker is already closed and I'm already gone.

I walk around the cafeteria with a brown box with dumb fliers in them. I have to use my knee to help get a better grip on it with my hands. I place the box on my knee and grab a flier as Tommy, a kid in Calculus class with me, walks by.

"Help us with the car wash on Saturday!" I say as he walks past. He ignores me and keeps walking.

"Oh so we're playing the game of ignoring each other out of class to. Great. Well screw you." I say more to myself. I sigh and throw the flier back in the box.

"You know, maybe if you didn't have a big brown box people would actually take some." I jump and nearly drop the box.

"Stop doing that!" I say turning around. Callum has a coke in his hand with his other hand in his pants pocket.

"I can hold the box and you can hand out the fliers." He says, reaching out his free hand.

"It's okay. I have it." I say pulling the box away from his outstretched hand. Callum looks at me with a blank expression and puts his hand back in his pocket. He takes a sip of his coke, nods his head, and walks away.
