I was so tired. I couldn't sleep and I was stressed. I got out of Darry's bed. He wasn't. Asleep yet. He was reading the newspaper in his arm chair.

I opened Sodapops door and snuck in. I didn't see Ponyboy, he must be out.

I climbed into bed with Soda and pulled the covers over.
"Ellie, what's wrong?" Soda asked sleepily.
"I couldn't sleep. I kept having bad dreams that they would come and get me."
"Come here." He said opening his arms.

Now I didn't find this weird because his was my best friend and he was like another brother.

I crawled into his arms and he kept me close to him. After awhile I finally drifted off to sleep.

I woke up around the afternoon.
I got up and changed into some of Ponys or Sodas clothes and walked to the door.

"How are we gonna get out of the house without her tagging along?"
"Why don't we all leave at different times and meet up. The rumble starts at seven."

They didn't want me to go. This was like sexist. What guys didn't think girls could fight?

"Tie her up or something."
"Lock her in a bedroom."
"Sleeping pills?"

That's it. I'm not going to be treated like this. I threw open the door and looked at them.

"Do you think I'm pathetic? Do you think I'm weak? Is it because I'm a girl? Tell me!" I screamed.

Nobody said anything. I stormed out of the house and to the park. Not to long later I felt a hand in my shoulder.

I looked up to see Ponyboy. I sat on the ground and he did to. He pulled me into him. He engulfed me Ito a hug.

I let out a huge sigh.
"Ellie you know it's not because you're a girl. I know you're tuff and tough but Dal just don't want you hurt."
"I know but it's not fair. I'm just as equal as you are and everyone else."
"Hey you wanna know something. When I first met you, I thought you were the world. I-I could help but blame myself when they took you."

I turned to him and smiled at what he just said.
"What?" He asked confused.
"Damn it Ponyboy. That's the nicest thing a boy has ever said to me."
He leaned in. I was nervous I've never been kissed before. I know lame.
I leaned in.

Before I knew it our lips connected. Our lips moved in sync. We pulled away. "Ellie I was um- "Yes Ponyboy I'd love to." And I kissed his cheek.

"You know if you want I bring you to the rumble. Let just watch the sunset first."

He had his arms around me as we sat in the grass watching the beautiful golden, purples, and pinks mix together.

We sat there and watched until it tuned dark.

Ponyboy helped me up and we started towards the lot.
