Today is the day. The battle task group goes out to scout the grounds today. Scott has been training in battle for two weeks, learning new combat moves and he is confident that he is ready. Although, he is very nervous because he has never seen anything outside of the walls of the Patron community.
He was waiting outside if the training room as to not be late. It was 6:30 so Mr. Nev should be coming any second now.
"Hoy! What are you doin' here boy, you don't have to be here for another thirty minutes?" The ruff sound of his teacher's voice called.
The blonde shot his head around to look towards his teacher. He replied with a quick "I was hoping to get a few tips as to what to do" so he didn't sound to cowardly.
Mr. Nev shook his head. "Boy, there has never been anybody out there when we go for a scout out. Nobody dares come that close to us. Ever. It is just so you guys get the feel of things. We pack everything with us, weapons and get y'all suited up for nothin'. There ain't nothing to worry 'bout. The worse thing we're gonna run into is a lone Drembled. You know how easy they are to take down."
Hoy nodded in response. Silence loomed over their heads as the dark grey haired man unlocked the door and invited the boy in. Scott waited for. Few minutes, just sitting on the ground before somebody finally walked in. It was Tay. She was a very attractive girl. That is what most guys said anyways. The toned boy didn't really see it, he didn't see it in any girl. Hoy figured that he was gay. Nobody really knew due to his lack of friends. He never really found a guy that he liked like that either. The girl had long hair as red as fire and freckles covering her nose. She walked up to Scott and sat down beside him. He didn't know her real name although he assumed that her first or last name was Taylor.
"You're Hoy, right? Are you nervous?" She asked.
"Yes and no." Hoy lied. Of course he was nervous, who wasn't? He just figured that it was easier to lie rather than explain how he actually felt. Also, he really didn't want to talk to anyone at that moment.
"You must be really brave than, 'cause I'm bursting at the seams because I'm so nervous." She pushed.
"Sure." He answered sharply. Scott figured that Tay must have gotten the hint because she just said a quick 'ok' and looked the other way. That's where the conversation ended. Hoy noticed that Eth and Fitch had arrived when they walked into the classroom pushing to get through the door first.
Mr. Nev must have noticed too because that is when he started to address the class. "In a few minutes the already trained warriors will be joining you. They will come with us in today's scout out. I suggest that you be geared up by that point. You will need your vest, goggles, gloves and pick one weapon. First come, first served." Scott and the others waited for a while. "What're y'all wait in' for, get a move on!" Mr. Nev screamed.
Scott was the first to move, he headed for a large black vest. There were dents and scratches all around it. This made the beach blonde boy wonder what happend to this warrior. He put it on anyway. After that, he made his way over to where they kept the tinted black goggles. He grabbed a pair at random and adjusted them to fit his head. They had a few smudges, but they were cleaned off easily. Scott had the pick of a sword or throwing knives. He figured he was pretty good at aiming so he chose the last pack of the throwing knives. Just as the more advanced warriors started coming in, the boy grabbed a pair of gloves. They had bits of plastic on them to make them easier to grip their weapons. His fingers poked out of the tips of the gloves. He walked back to the main room and leaned against a wall, waiting for the others to finish getting ready.
After about ten minutes of waiting, everyone was done getting ready. Mr. Nev said in his loud, booming voice "Alright, get ready newbies, we stay together and always be ready. Remember, act first, think second." With that the whole group of mabey 45 people started to head out. Scott started to think about what his instructor had told him before. 'Boy, there has never been anybody out there on a scout out.'. One thought lead to another, which lead to another, which ultimately lead to what the outside world looked like. Scott remembered when his grade school teacher showed the class what the earth looked like before 'the ultimate destruction'. It was a beautiful blue and green. The trees were covered in bright green leaves that changed colour as the temperature dropped. Water as blue as the sky.
The boy was snapped out of his thoughts by the opening of the large gate that would allow them to make their way out of the Patron community. The blinding light of the sun delayed his sight temporary. But as his eyes adjusted he saw the world. It was extremely hot. The trees just barely alive. Dry. Hoy came to the conclusion that this is why the clans lived underground. The world looked nothing like it used to. Scott's face must have shown that he was awestruck and disappointed because Tay once again came up to him. "Ya alright?" Scott tried to speak but nothing came out, so he just nodded aggressively. "Ok. Hey, I was wondering if you would mabey wanna hang out sometime, mabey? Just us? Together?"
The question caught him off guard. "Uh- um. Pr-probably not. I uh, I d-don't actually l-like, uh, like girls." He looked shamefully down at his shoes.
"Oh, uh, yeah! Sorry. I was just, uh." There was an awkward moment of silence before she said again, "I'm just gonna walk over there." She said with surprise in her voice. Than she waked to the other side of the group a blush invaded her cheeks. Scott walked alone, he liked it that way. Everyone was talking but Scott just watched his feet that were embedded in dusty black work boots.
Suddenly all of the chatter stopped and the tall blonde bumped into the slightly smaller person in front of him. "Hey, why has everybo-". That is when he saw it. Tiny light grey specks. The whole crowd erupted into whispers of the same word. 'Rezmence'.
Panic.
