Kiara’s POV

If someone had told me four months ago that Brandon Williams—CEO of Williams Industries, my infuriating boss who once threw a coffee cup across the room for being “too lukewarm”—would one day be standing less than a foot from me, teasing me with a boyish grin on his face, I would have asked what sci-fi show they were watching.

But here we were.

The atmosphere between us has shifted, gently, like the slow pull of the tide. At work, I was still his assistant. Professional. Efficient. But lately, Brandon has been slipping in flirtation like sugar in black coffee—unexpected, but undeniably sweet.

“Miss Knight,” he drawled one afternoon, leaning against the edge of his desk, arms folded as he watched me organize the files for his 3 PM meeting. “You know, it’s borderline cruel how good you look while being this efficient. You’re distracting me.”

I didn’t look up from the stack I was alphabetizing. “You’re the CEO. Focus is kind of part of the job description, isn’t it?”

He chuckled, low and warm. “You’re cute when you’re sassy.”

My eyes finally lifted, narrowing in playful warning. “Flattery doesn’t get the reports signed any faster.”

He smirked and pushed off the desk, stepping into my space. “Maybe not. But this might.” His hand lightly brushed mine as he took the file from me. The contact sent a jolt through me—one I was only just getting used to feeling around him.

It was becoming a dangerous habit, the way he stood too close, the way he touched my hand just a second longer than necessary, or leaned down to whisper something cheeky in the middle of a meeting just to see me blush.

And damn him, it worked every time.

“Seriously, Brandon,” I said, folding my arms as I took a step back, “You’re going to get us caught one of these days.”

I am getting comfortable with calling him by his first name now. He threatened to kiss me if I called him Mr Williams when we were alone, and he did, especially during our little dates.

“Maybe I want to,” he said, voice low, teasing. “Let the whole office know their boss finally has good taste.”

Before I could respond, he gently pulled me forward by the hand and leaned down, lips inches from mine. My heart jumped into my throat. We hadn’t kissed at work—not yet. I knew he wanted to. Hell, I wanted to. But there was still a line we hadn’t crossed inside these office walls.

He hovered, waiting. “Just one?”

My lips parted as I whispered, “Bran—”

SLAM.

The door to his office burst open. We both snapped apart like teenagers caught sneaking out.

“Brandon! Darling, we’re here!” a familiar voice sang out.

Oh. My. God.

I turned, my cheeks burning so hot I might have passed out.

Standing in the doorway were Antonia Williams—beautiful, elegant, and practically glowing in her white cashmere coat—and Lucas Williams, Brandon’s father, looking far too amused for my comfort.

Brandon looked like he wanted the floor to swallow him whole.

“Mom—Dad—what are you doing here?” he asked, voice strained as he straightened his tie like that would make the moment any less awkward.

Antonia’s eyes sparkled as she glanced from me to her son. “Oh, don’t be shy, darling. We saw nothing. Except, you know… almost everything.”

Lucas clapped Brandon on the back with a booming laugh. “Well, finally! I was wondering when you were going to stop being a fool and date the woman who’s been keeping this whole damn company running.”

I choked on air.

Antonia stepped toward me, graceful and warm, taking my hands in hers. “Kiara, sweetheart. I am so happy. You have no idea. I’ve always adored you. And I’ve told Brandon more than once that he needed a woman with grace, class, and intelligence.”

She shot her son a playful glare. “Not one of those airhead models he used to run around with.”

“Mother,” Brandon groaned, running a hand through his hair. “Can we not?”

Lucas was still grinning ear to ear. “Son, you’ve hit the jackpot. Don’t mess this up.”

“Thank you, Mr. Williams,” I muttered, cheeks still flaming.

Antonia turned to me with a gentle smile. “Kiara, I insist—you must come to dinner with us. Tomorrow night. Just the family. I won’t take no for an answer.”

I looked at Brandon, unsure, but he gave me a soft nod, one that silently said it’s okay. I want this too.

“I’d love to, Antonia, thank you,” I said quietly.

“Please,” Antonia said, her eyes twinkling. “There's no need to thank me, you are like a daughter to me. And I’m calling Margaret to tell her the good news. She and I are due for wine night anyway.”

I smiled despite the chaos happening inside me. Of course, she already knew my aunt.

“Wonderful,” she clapped, linking arms with her husband. “Now, don’t let us interrupt. We’ll let you two get back to… whatever important business you were about to conduct.”

They left the room, but not without Lucas sending Brandon a thumbs-up and mouthing “You’re welcome.”

The door closed. Silence fell.

I turned to Brandon. “So… that happened.”

He exhaled. “Yeah. That really did.”

Then he grinned. “You’re having dinner with my family tomorrow. Guess this is getting real.”

I rolled my eyes, but my smile betrayed me. “You really gonna try to kiss me again after that?”

He stepped closer. “Oh, I’m definitely trying again. Just… maybe with the door locked this time.”

I laughed, shaking my head as he reached for my hand.

And in that moment, I realized… I didn’t mind being caught anymore.
