"ten years ago, my sister was only fourteen. she was diagnosed with brain cancer and she had less than two weeks of life. her condition allowed us to take her home, so she spent her last moments with her family." he sniffed and i looked at him with curiosity. what would he say next? was that story even true?
"what happened, ashton?" i urged him to continue.
"one day, a couple showed up to our door. they were supposedly from a donating organization who was collaborating with the hospital. they asked my mother if she wanted her dying daughter to become a donor. mom didn't need to think twice before she accepted." irwin was practically whispering by now, the tears were freely flowing down his cheeks.
"that couple was the same couple that came up to you, wasn't it?" i already knew the answer to that question, but i wanted to let him finish his story.
"they had the nerve back then to show up at my house and take the corpse of my sister to sell her organs illegally and they had the nerve to show up to my clinic and try to sell illegal organs to me." he lowered his head again. he didn't even want to look up at me and let me know that he is in fact crying. "you know, we never buried my sister's body, because we never got it back."
"so, this was personal." i stated matter-of-factly.
"the way i see it, i got rid of a few parasites. there are way more out there." he pushed his hair back with his handcuffed hands and sighed.
