"We can tell the entrance guards the whole story!" suggested Anna. Elizabeth disagreed and said, "They'll probably not believe us. We will just have to sneak out without them knowing."
The girls decided to climb the walls which were far away from the entrance. Unfortunately, one of the guards noticed them and ran after them. The other guard didn't see anyone, and told the other guard that he probably had been 'seeing things'.
The other guard got convinced, somehow. The girls escaped and ran as fast as possible. "What about our bags in the graveyard?" asked Anna, worriedly. "Who cares? At least we're safe over here," replied Elizabeth, impatiently. It was raining heavily. Luckily, a cab came driving the same road. The girls got in the cab and drove to Anna's house.
The cab driver was kind and pleasant to the girls. He drove them home carefully, and the girls were glad he didn't ask any questions. They thanked him profusely. Then, they had a good night's sleep, thinking that their wild and crazy night adventure had finally come to an end.
The next morning, Mr Henry called to ask how his daughter and niece were doing. The girls told him about last night's events. Mr Henry was shocked to hear the story. "You shouldn't have done that, you know," he said. Elizabeth told him that it was the only way to try catch the thieves. "Now, we even know that the culprits have a shortcut to Mr David's house. So far, I am pretty much convinced they have all talked at least once." said Elizabeth.
The girls decided to check with Mr David if everything was fine. Mr David was not home. "But," said Anna. "He was supposed to be back last night! I wonder if he's fine!"
Elizabeth decided to report to the police about the strange events. She narrated the whole story to the police, i.e., from the car crash incident till the climbing wall in the night incident. The police were shocked and surprised to hear this unusual report from the girls. "I'm sure that Mr David has something to do with this." said Elizabeth.
The police assured her that they would catch the police and contact the New York police for any important information. Elizabeth thanked him and ended the line.
A few days passed by peacefully and nothing unusual happened. About a week later, the girls received a call carrying great news from the police.
