Chapter 12: At The End of the Rainbow

-to the story-

Rainbow sat on a cloud above Ponyville staring at the Carousel Boutique. She was pale and her hair was stuck to her forehead due to her sweating. She was lost. She had no idea what to do next. Rainbow loved Apples but she couldn't open up her heart to her. She couldn't tell Apples about the one pony who had saved her as a filly.

Rainbow Dash cried out in anguish and punched the cloud she was sitting on. Tears filled her eyes as she thought about everything. The abusive orderlies and nurses. The blank, uncaring eyes of the colt that owned the orphanage. Rainbow shuddered as memories began to fill her head.

-FlashBack (Third POV)-

A young filly Rainbow Dash sat alone in the corner of the orphanage's "playground," which was really just a fenced in field. She looked up at the sky and sighed heavily. Rainbow closed her eyes and imaged being able to fly. Imagined the wind through her mane and coat. The power she could feel in her wings as she soared through the sky completely content.

"Howdy," A small orange earth pony walked up to the day dreaming pegasus and smiled. "MY name's Applejack but ya'll can call me AJ."

Rainbow looked at the mare in confusion. Didn't she know that Rainbow was a troublemaker? Just sitting beside her could get the orange filly into quite a bit of trouble. The more Rainbow stared at the earth pony, the more she began to notice how pretty she was.

"My name is Rainbow Dash," Rainbow said and a blush appeared on her cheeks. She couldn't help but be drawn into those swirling pools of liquid emerald. Rainbow found herself within those pools. Found a lost, scared filly just like herself.

Suddenly, Rainbow smiled, "Wanna be friends?" Though young, Rainbow somehow knew this mare was important to her. Maybe to help keep her sanity in that horrible place. Maybe to help find herself.

Applejack blushed and nodded. Then the pair ran off together.

Rainbow opened her eyes. Her vision was blurry due to the tears that'd begun streaming down her face. She remembered now.

When Applejack was adopted by Granny from the orphanage Rainbow was devastated. She'd thought she'd lost her only light of hope in the her dark world. But, before Applejack left, she told Rainbow where she was going. Ponyville.

Rainbow stood up on the cloud. She looked to the Carousel Boutique and knew she'd find Apples there. Slowly flapping her wings, Rainbow made her way there.

With tears still streaming down her face, she knocked on the door.

"Coming!" Rarity said through the door. A few tense moments passed for Rainbow before the door swung open.

Rarity's mouth fell open before turning into a smile.

"Oh Rainbow I'm so glad you're back!" She exclaimed excited.

"Is Applejack here?" Dash asked. Her nerves were beginning to get the best of her. She wanted to tell Apples before it overtook her.

Rarity nodded and motioned for Rainbow to come inside. The two made the way to Rariy's living room where Applejack was sitting on the couch staring blankly at the wall.
