Monday 10th February, 2014.
8:44am, London, England.

"Yes, Mum, I'll make sure she has her lunch. Wait, I'll call Katie so you can talk to her." I said in a rush, Katie's name leaving my mouth in a shout at the end as I hastened to pack some flower-cut sandwiches in her Frozen lunchbox. "I'm coming!" I got a reply in the next twenty seconds as Katie's voice got closer and closer, her body finally running through the kitchen doorway and in my sight.

Her body was wearing the school's uniform which for her, I picked it out as the regular white polo shirt, mid grey pinafore, some black leggings, frilly white socks and normal flats with Velcro straps and the general plum purple school cardigan for girls while the boys had to wear jumpers.

"Katie, Gammy's on the phone. Here." I handed the phone into her hands as quick as I could before putting an orange capri-sun in her lunchbox.

"Hi Gammy!" I heard her sweetly say, a smile on her face as I turned my body round. My hands went to open one of the small drawers and take out a pen and paper. It was her first day at the primary school, the least I could do was write her a good luck note.

I uncapped the pen and started to write as clearly as possible. I knew Katie could read as best as she could ever since I bought her those fairytale books two days ago. It turned out, she'd already read them before.

To my lovely Katie,
Mister hopes you've had a lovely day so far and made some friends. If not, remember, there's always more days than one. Anyway, it's lunch now and I've packed your favourite foods. Enjoy and I'll see you at hometime. Love you :)

I folded the small paper in half and quickly yet gently put it into the bag, zipping it up and holding the handle as I walked over to a smiley Katie who was bidding goodbye to Mum.

"Gammy says I'm going to have the best day ever. Is it true?" I kneeled down in front of her as she sat in the dining chair.

The leftovers of her breakfast sat on the table in front of her. The only thing was, there weren't any leftovers. Just the plate. She sure liked the pancakes I made her.

"Yes it is. Wanna know why?" Her head nodded as she focused on what I was about to say.

"Katie Styles is going to have the best day ever because it's going to be just like every other day. Fun as ever, but with little surprises here and there. Fun because new teachers and new friends, and surprises because you'll learn NEW things every day." I emphasised my lecture with big hand gestures, knowing Katie was hooked as "ooh." Left her mouth.

"Now, we should get going because we're gonna be late." I turned my head to check the time as my hands went to button up Katie's plum purple cardigan.

8:55am.

Crap.

"Katie, we're gonna need to run." My hand went to hold Katie's as I helped her out of the seat, my other hand stretching to grab the lunchbox at the island countertop.

Katie struggled slightly to keep up with my rushed pace before I let go of her hand, whipping my aviator jacket and getting my keys from the little side table next to the door.

"Go!" I shouted lightly as we ran to the car, quickly opening the door to the passenger's side and giving Katie a slight boost to help her into it. I buckled her seatbelt and sat her lunchbox on her lap, her Frozen backpack going into the foot space. After shutting the car door, I made my way over to the drivers side, sitting in my seat and starting up the engine.

The next few minutes were spent with the light thudding of my thumbs as they came in contact with the steering wheel, in rhythm while my voice lightly sang the song going on in the car. Katie just sat in silence as we passed many houses and buildings, her eyes just looking out the car window.
