The morning air in the haveli was thick with summer blossoms and temple bells. Raghav stood in the courtyard, sleeves rolled, eyes on his phone screen as he finalized details with the event coordinator.
"No cake... no DJ... no flashy lights," he said, his voice stern yet patient. "I want this to feel like home—our traditions, our rituals. Simple. Sacred."
The man on the other end stuttered, "But sir, for an anniversary—"
"I said what I said," Raghav cut in smoothly. "Decorate with marigold, mogra, and diyas. Folk music. And serve traditional Rajasthani cuisine. My in-laws will be present, and so will the villagers. It must feel like us. Not some film set."
He hung up and took a deep breath, a rare, satisfied smile touching his lips.
Eight years.
Eight years since she'd walked into his life—soft-spoken, draped in a red saree, eyes lowered, yet sharp enough to read his silences.
He dialed Dev.
"Raghav bhai Sa!" Dev's voice boomed with excitement. "Finally you called! Vrinda bhabhi never told me but she thinks you forgot this year like always!"
Raghav chuckled. "Let her think so. I want this to be a surprise."
Dev gasped dramatically. "Oho! Shaadi ke aath saal baad romance aaya hai?"
"Zyada bakwas mat kar," Raghav said fondly. "I need you to call and invite the relatives personally. I want everyone there—especially from her side."
"Done! Main sab kuch handle kar loonga. You focus on bhabhi's smile."
Later that afternoon, Raghav visited the jeweler in town. He didn't go for diamonds or anything that screamed extravagance. Instead, he chose a delicate kundan choker with tiny ruby drops—regal, yet not overwhelming. The bangles were traditional lakh ka kangan, and a matching maang tikka completed the set.
Then came the poshak—deep red, embroidered with fine golden thread. Not loud, not showy—just enough shimmer to make her look like poetry in motion.
He ran a hand over the silk fabric thoughtfully.
She always looks best in red.
Meanwhile, Chavi had already caught on. The excitement in the air wasn't lost on her. Raghav wanted to invite her personally as she was married. She was happy for her Bhabhi Sa. she apologised for her mistakes and behavior. She asked him that she would take care of her parlour sessions.
By doing this she would feel a little relieved. Raghav accepted her apology but again she was not his guilty but Vrinda's she promised she asked for forgiveness from her personally.
Then Raghav moved to Vrinda's parents' home. They were not so well off but their hearts filled with gratitude and love. Raghav gifted them so many things with his little brother in law and sister in law who were in their early twenties. He enjoyed his day and invited them to the party. He also asked them to keep it themselves as Vrinda did not know about it.
His brother in law and sister in law took him to their fields. Also Raghav invited Vrinda's younger sister and her family who married in another village. He took some presents for them and their family. She was also surprised and complained to him about not attending her marriage for Raghav apologised earnestly. Everyone was happy and excited to meet on such a great occasion.
