The Code Between Us Chapter 5

The night after their argument at the café, Meera barely slept.

Every time she closed her eyes, the conversation replayed in her mind.

Aarav leaning across the table.

His voice dropping lower.

Some chaos is worth studying.

She turned over in bed, frustrated.

"Why am I thinking about him so much?" she muttered.

It was ridiculous.

He was arrogant, manipulative, and annoyingly calm about everything.

And yet...

She kept replaying every word he had said.

By morning, she had convinced herself of one thing.

She needed distance.

So the next evening, Meera avoided the café entirely.

Instead, she walked through the quiet park near her apartment, hoping the cool air would clear her mind.

Streetlights flickered softly along the path.

The park was almost empty.

For the first time in days, she felt a little calmer.

Until she heard a familiar voice behind her.

"You're changing your routine again."

Meera stopped walking slowly.

She didn't even need to turn around.

"Aarav," she said flatly.

When she finally faced him, he stood a few steps away beneath the yellow glow of a streetlight.

Hands in his coat pockets.

Expression unreadable.

"You followed me," she accused.

"No."

"Then how are you here?"

"You're predictable when you're trying not to be."

She exhaled sharply.

"Do you ever stop?"

"Not when something interests me."

"That word again."

"Yes."

Meera folded her arms.

"You're turning into a stalker."

"That's a harsh interpretation."

"It's accurate."

Aarav stepped closer.

The quiet park suddenly felt smaller.

"Why are you avoiding me?" he asked.

"I'm not."

"You stopped coming to the café."

"Because I have a life outside your experiment."

"This isn't an experiment anymore."

"You keep saying that."

"And you keep pretending you don't believe it."

Meera shook her head.

"You're unbelievable."

"Possibly."

She turned to continue walking, but Aarav moved ahead slightly, blocking her path.
