The day couldn't have started out any more normal. Jim Kirk woke up at 8:00 to a blaring alarm. He had to set it loud in order to wake up, those damn things had never worked otherwise.
Exhausted, he dragged himself out of bed. He sluggishly walked into the bathroom and examined himself in the mirror. Cuts and bruises, some worse than others, littered his face and chest. Glass was sticking out of some cuts, the jagged ends looking intimidating.
Painfully, Jim began to pick at the glass sticking out of his chest. Wincing with every little piece, he managed to pull them all out with a tweezers.
As quickly as he could, Jim showered and got dressed in the standard StarFleet cadet uniform. Why did the academy have the uniforms so tight? It painfully pressed in his chest, causing the cuts to be irritated.
Realizing that it was already 9:25, Jim rushed out of his dorm. He was late to his physics class, and the professor hated students being late. He could feel the scabs on the cuts tearing and bleeding again. The course fabric wasn't helping.
As fast as he could, Jim walked into the class room. Before the professor could say anything, he sat down and pulled out a PADD that was used for notes.
"Mr. Kirk, I assume you have a good reason for being late." The professor asked, looking away from the board he was writing on.
"No sir." Jim muttered, glancing around.
"You know how I feel about people being late to my class." The professor insisted, getting more exasperated with every word.
"Yes sir, I'm very sorry sir." Jim muttered, turning on the PADD. He started to copy the notes from the board.
"Mr. Kirk, I'd like you to go to sickbay." The professor suddenly said, looking down at Jim in his chair. Jim followed his gaze to his chest.
The cuts had bleed through the fabric, causing him to look like he'd been through a fight. His face looked the same. "Yes sir." Jim muttered, standing up. He sulked out the door, feeling shameful. It was never great to be sent to the sickbay.

The sickbay was bustling. People were rushing about, getting things done. Jim signed himself in and sat down to wait. There was a young women who was in labor, a kid with a broken arm, and a man with multiple cuts and bruises, similar to Jim's injuries.
"What happened to you?" The man asked him, wincing as he turned to face Jim.
"Bar fight last night. This is nothing compared to the other guys." Jim answered, beaming with pride. "What about you?"
"Fencing accident. I'm Hikaru Sulu." The man said, extending his hand as much as his arms would let him.
"Jim Kirk." Jim said, shaking Hikaru's hand.
"Jim Kirk?" A nurse asked, walking into the waiting room. Jim smiled at her and waved.
"Good luck Sulu." He said before following the nurse back to a private room.
"Okay, what happened Mr. Kirk?" She asked, ready to type on a PADD.
"I was in a bar fight last night. I had a few bottles smashed on my chest." Jim explained, trying not to stutter. To be honest, this was the first girl he'd ever liked.
She was pretty and she was smart. That's all he needed. Jim lost track of time. Everything seemed to stop. It was just him and this women, nothing else. He was actually nervous to talk to her. Jim Kirk, the womanizer, afraid to talk to women. It wasn't right.
"Mr. Kirk. Mr Kirk." A voice kept insisting.
"Hm, yeah?" Jim asked, snapping out of his trance.
"I just want to know who your usual doctor is." The nurse said, glancing down at the PADD.
"Doctor McCoy." Jim answered, staring at her. "You are the most gorgeous women I've seen in a long time."
"Really? And how am I the most gorgeous?" The nurse asked, putting the PADD down.
"You're pretty and smart, everything I want in a women. What's your name?" Jim muttered, still astounded by her.
"Naomi Reither. Now take your shirt off so I can see the cuts." Naomi said, a smug smile on her face.
Jim took his shirt off, wincing at the sits breaking open again. Naomi moved closer and examined the different cuts.
"Some of these need stitches, the skin menders we have won't heal such deep or large cuts." Naomi explained. "Wait here."
She walked out of the room, her hair bouncing just below her shoulders. There was some small curls at the bottom of the light brown hair. Her eyes were like green water, in a good way. She looked about Jim's age.
Why can't I get this girl off of my mind? Jim thought to himself. He's never had a crush like this before.
"Okay, hold still. Some of these will hurt." Naomi said, coming back into the room. She pulled out a needle and some stitching thread. Jim laid down on the table, wincing as the needle pierced his skin and pulled it shut.
"That wasn't as bad as I remember." Jim muttered, sitting up so Naomi could bandage his chest. None of the cuts on his face needed any work to them.
"How old were you when you last had stitches?" Naomi asked, wrapping a bandage tightly around Jim's chest. The bandage was a bit uncomfortable.
"Fourteen, but-"
"Fourteen?! No wonder this didn't hurt as bad as you remember!" Naomi exclaimed, a smile forming on her lips. Her laugh was amazing, she was so beautiful when she smiled.
"I guess, but I was a tough kid." Jim insisted.
"Fine, you were tough." Naomi said, rolling her eyes. "That was ten years ago."
"Yeah." Jim muttered, smiling. He looked into Naomi's eyes and laughed. They shone so bright and beautifully.
"Hey, would you like to go out sometime?"Naomi didn't respond and finished the bandage. "Don't wear any tight clothes for a couple of days and try to keep a bandage on." She said, moving towards the end of the bed. "And yes, I'll go on a date with you."
She smiled, her eyes shone brighter then ever. Her hair still bounced on her shoulder, even though she wasn't moving much.
"Great! Umm, uh, meet me by the fountain at 8:00 tomorrow night?" Jim asked, stuttering form nervousness on each word.
"Sounds great. See you then Jim Kirk." Naomi said, walking out of the room, turning back at Jim to smile before walking around the corner.
