"There is nothing more we can do for him other than give him stronger pain killers to cope with the pain but I'm afraid to tell you it's not looking good. I'd take him home and prepare for the worst." The doctor explained to the family waiting in the waiting room but that wasn't what they wanted to hear, even the sympathy didn't help. They all thanked him taking in a deep breath knowing Joe's life was coming to an end aged twenty nine. They wanted their son, brother and husband to make it through this but there wasn't anything anyone else could do. They were glad he was dying soon and that he wouldn't be suffering anymore. Demi had changed out of her wedding dress before coming to the hospital but the reception was still going on but nobody was in the mood when they heard that the groom had been taken to hospital.
"I'll go get him." Denise stated breaking the silence getting up making her way into the hospital room seeing Joe already sat on the edge of the bed still crying.
"I hate knowing that I'm going to die in the next couple of days if not today, I won't even know if I have another son or a daughter. I'll never get to see Gabe grow into a man, I won't become a Grandfather. I won't get to live a life with Demi." Joe broke down his mother rushing to his side holding him in her arms as he cried. She let the tears roll down her cheeks knowing that she was going to outlive her second son. She'd have to bury her son and that is something no mother should have to do. Denise held Joe as he sobbed into her only crying gently hoping that he didn't notice, she pulled away when he calmed down a little bit wiping his eyes.
"There is nothing I can say which will make you better or feel better but this is how god wanted to take you and that's how it must be, let's get you home and then we will talk about what you want to do over the next couple of days." Denise suggested Joe nodding his head gently allowing his mother to help him up.
By the time they all got home the party was finished, it wasn't much of a reception but everybody understood what was happening and how unwell Joe was at the moment. It had come very suddenly. Joe was helped down onto the couch smiling slightly as Gabe sat down next to him Joe wrapping his arm around him.
"Have you had a good day Gabe?" Joe questioned, he didn't want to be down for the amount of time he did have left. He wanted to have a good time with his family and friends. They watched as everyone started to scatter around the room, the younger ones sat down on the floor to give the older ones the chairs. Demi was sat next to Joe Gabe now in her lap.
"Yeah it was fun but mommy and daddy kissy Ew!" Joe and Demi laughed as Gabe acted disgusted leaning back against his mother.
"It's what people do to show each other they love each other." Demi stated kissing his cheek gently.
"Me love you too mommy." Gabe grinned.
"And daddy?" Demi questioned Gabe giving his head a huge nod. Demi couldn't believe how much Gave looked like his father still now, she knew he would continue that way but it would give her a nice reminder of him as she coped without him. She still had the baby growing inside her to look forward to even if his or hers father wasn't around.
"I love daddy this much!" Gabe explained stretching his arms out as far as they would go, Joe smiled as did Demi Joe kissing his head.
"I love you too Gabe." Joe stated wrapping his arm around Demi as his mother sat down next to him laying her hand on his leg.
"I thought you'd like to look at some home movies for a while?" Denise suggested Joe nodding his head knowing she had some of him when he was growing up with his three brothers but also some of Gabe. He wouldn't be around to see his second child.
