Chapter 4
Jonathan's feelings

Once the large wooden door closed on Jonathan he sat on the bed, and breathed, deeply.
The siren, Angelica, was something else. He'd never seen anyone as beautiful as her. She was kind as well, he didn't know why he called for her help when he was in the water, but he was extremely glad he did.
'The water...' He thought.
Images flashed in his mind before he could stop them.

He sat on the deck of the ship, watching the blue ocean that surrounded them for what seemed like forever. Children played, and people talked and laughed loudly.
He loved sailing.
He loved the taste of salt in the air, the cool ocean that splashed up on his hot skin, he loved the mysteriousness of it, and yet the beauty as well.
"Jonathan!" The captain's harsh voice snapped him back into reality.
"You're break's over boy, get back to work."
Jonathan chuckled to himself.
'As long as I'm at sea, my break is never over.'
He took his thin, tattered shirt off and went back to work.

Jonathan sighed and leaned back against the cold, stone wall. He closed his eyes and thought about all the events that had happened today.
The ship crashed.
He knew that he was the only survivor, he was the best swimmer in Scotland, he won plenty of awards for speed. He saw people get speared by rocks, he saw the life boats crash...he saw the children...
He shivered, he couldn't bare to think of them.
Jonathan put his feet up on the bed and moved his body to the side. His head hit the soft pillow like a brick.
'Thank you, Angelica.' He thought 'you haven't only saved my life, but kept me comfortable as well.'
He drifted to sleep thinking of her.

When Jonathan awoke happily. He had a pleasant dream about being able to breathe underwater, Angelica was there too, her tail shinning like the sun.
She looked beautiful.

Jonathan got up and sat at the small table in the corner. He noticed a small wooden bowl on the table and pieces in it.
He lifted the small wooden pieces out of the bowl and looked at them.
They seemed to fit together.
Jonathan worked with the pieces until finally they all fit together in one small heart.
Jonathan smiled at the little thing. It was made of pure wood and could fit in the palm of his hand.
All of the sudden the cracks where the pieces fit together started to glow, before he could slap the heart of the table the light became to bright and he covered his eyes with his arms.

When the light diminished the heart was very different.
It was still the same size as before but now the little heart was a blue gem, the sides seem to have been cut by a very experienced jeweler and the back was a straight triangle. The front of the gem was flat and the words 'Do Not Forget' were written in gold on it.

Jonathan blinked, looking at the gem.
He was in shock, he didn't know how the transformation has happened or what had caused it.
"May God be watching over me." He said, and got up and walked out of the room.
