Chapter 7
Prophecy and False Prophets

"Where did you come from Angelica?" Jonathan asked me.
I looked at him, my eyebrows knitting together.
'That wasn't the question I was expecting.' I thought.
"Oh," I said "well I hadn't really thought about that much since my parents left me on this island......." I trailed off.
I didn't want Jonathan thinking of me as some sad orphan, because I wasn't. I had made it on this island by myself without anyone's help. I definitely was not a sad orphan. I almost laughed at the thought.
"Can we change the subject?" I asked, I was just not interested in explaining my life to him, at least not yet.
Jonathan was respective of my privacy, he nodded and we continued to walk in an awkward silence.
"I just have one question," I said "where did you come from?"
He looked at me, and bit the inside of his cheek.
"Well, I'm eighteen years old," he said "my father's name is Jonathan the II (I'm Jonathan the III) and my last name is Mills." He said.
He sounded like he was reciting from a textbook, and not very enthusiastically.
"My full name is Arthur Jonathan Mills the III," He chuckled, and smirked "but you can call me John or Jonathan."
I laughed at that.
"What an...impressive name." I said, giggling.
He laughed, again.
We walked in silence again, but not uncomfortably. It gave me time to take in all that had happened.
Jonathan, a mere boy of eighteen, had somehow survived the cursed rocks of my island, and I saved him.
Realization hit me like a brick.
If someone can get on my island...
Can I get off?

A few minutes later, the sun was setting over the blue ocean and the waves hit gently against the white sands of my island. The shadows that cast into the woods were both mysterious and beautiful.
I felt Jonathan freeze next to me. His large, warm hand latched on to my arm. I froze next to him and turned my head slightly, looking into his ocean blue eyes curiously.
I nodded his head towards the trees, and I saw what he was looking at.
"What in the ocean?" I said.
"There's no way."
"It can't be."
"But it's right-"
"Hel-hello?" The small voice asked.
"No, no way." I said.
This was impossible. No one was one my island except for me.
I have always been alone.
A little girl walked through the woods.

I backed away.
No.
No.
No!
This isn't possible!
I would have known, this isn't......
"Angelica?" Jonathan said he started backing away from the child, he looked as terrified as I felt. He knew I was alone on this island.
"What is this?" He said.
I looked at the girl.
She looked beaten up, she had bruises on her arms and legs. Her skin was a light green color and her eyes were a light green as well. Her hair was long and brown, it fell over her right shoulder.
'She looks like she just fought a shark' I almost laughed 'I know how that goes.'
"Well I almost had to."
She spoke, it made me flinch. Her voice was haunting, she sounded like she was whispering into a cave, because her voice echoed. It reminded me of the bats at night.
"What?" I asked.
"Battle a bull shark." She said.
I stood still, had she read my mind?
"Can you read my thoughts?"
Jonathan stepped further away, terrified.
The little girl nodded.
I knew what 'she' was now.
"Jonathan, go to the edge of the surf, and just barely let the water touch your toes."
He looked at me like I was crazy. I knew what I was doing though. It was a small trick I had learned from being in the water. Whenever I was at that particular spot, I would some how end up right back in my house. I prayed it worked for Jonathan as well.
He seemed hesitant.
"Just do it!" I yelled.
Shocked at me yelling at him he did what he was told.
As soon as he touched the water he was gone.
'Good' I thought 'He is safe.'
"Now," I said "what are you hear to tell me, Nixie?'
The little girl smiled at that.
"At least you know that much." She giggled.
"I know more than you think." I snapped.
She giggled, again. This Nixie had appeared every now and then to steal from my garden. It was a creature that transformed from a little girl to a frog. She said she could predict the future. I called that rubbish.
"Sure you do." She said.
The Nixie started walking around me, but I kept my eyes on her.
Her light green skin sparkled in the fading light. Her head flipped from side to side curiously.
"You ruined my night." I said, annoyed.
"I bring you good news." She said, ignoring me.
"You will soon leave this island for the one you love."
My heart started speeding up.
Love? I don't love anyone. I'm alone. It's always been that way.
'By the ocean' I thought 'she doesn't mean...'
She laughed, it sounded evil, and it made me shiver.
"But you will lose him, just as every Mermaid does."
That made my heart stop, and my blood boil. I was going to leave this island with someone I loved, but I was going to lose him in the process.
'Jonathan.'
"Siren." I said
"What?"
Her eyebrows knitted together, confused, and somewhat angry.
"I am a Siren, a monster. I am no Mermaid."
The Nixie smiled, and giggled.
"Or so you think."
The Nixie put her foot into the surf.
"But do not forget, Angelica,"
The words hit the inside of my head like a fist.
"You are the last of your kind," She smiled wickedly "and you will lose him."
The Nixie slipped into the water.
She left me with my heart broken, my mind confused and prophecies that showed how terrible my future would become.

The words gave no meaning to me.
But what did 'Do not forget' mean?

Do not forget.

Why?
