*Vex*

Hitching a ride, Noah, Audrey and I traveled in silence to my place, Audrey's dad quietly driving in the front. Nearing my house, I felt Noah nudge my shoulder.

"Mind if I stay at your place for a little? I'll get a ride home around 6:30." Smiling, I nodded just as Mr. Jensen pulled into my drive, my moms car parked next to my truck in the lot.

"Here we are. Now, you kids be safe, ya here?" Chuckling, Noah gave him a "yes sir" before getting out of the car, giving Audrey a quick wave.

"You wanna stay too?" I asked, trying to cheer her up. She shook her head, not even glancing at me. Frowning, I got out of the car, waving at her as they pulled out of the lot. Turning to Noah, I gave him a sad smile before leading the way into my house. As the door opened, I stood still, a little shocked and scared of entering. Who wouldn't be? When you're attacked in your own home, it leaves its mark. I felt Noah's hands on my shoulders as he gently guided me in, grabbing onto my hand after letting go of my shoulders. Smiling up at him, I gave him a grateful squeeze before pulling him along into the kitchen, letting out a deep breath. There was my mother, the cutting board out and her Kiss the Chef apron as she chopped cucumbers.

"Hey mom." I whispered softly. Slowly, she set the knife down, turning on her heel and pulling me into a huge hug, completely ignoring Noah.

"Are you okay?" Her voice was raw. Pulling back from her, I saw that her eyes were puffy and red, she had been crying this entire time. Biting my quivering lips to hold back the tears, I shook my head. With a sad smile, she threw her arms around me once more, soft cries erupting from her mouth.

"When I called, the weren't detailed with what had happened. I thought- when I saw you, I just-" I shook my head, silencing her. I didn't need to hear my mom say it. I didn't need to feel anymore guilty. I shouldn't have even gone with Noah and Audrey, I had been so selfish.

"I know, I'm fine, really. My head doesn't even hurt anymore." I tried to joke with her, but it only resulted in her pulling away enough for me to see the devastated look in her eyes. Never had I noticed just how old my mom was. I always thought she was immortal, never aged. She was my mom, she would always be beautiful and young in my eyes. But now, I saw the wrinkles and the bags under her eyes. The tears brought it out, in her eyes, I could see it as well.

"We've already lost him, he wasn't a good man but he was one, at one point. But, to even think- to even have to think that I lost you too-" My mom sniffled again, rubbing her eyes. I felt Noah behind me, his hand was still in mine. I had been holding it this entire time, refusing to let go. "I can't loose my baby girl." Letting the tears slide out, I shook my head, hugging her once more.

"You won't mom, I promise." I could feel her smile onto my shoulder, her head shaking.

"I love you so much Vex, just know that." Laughing, I pulled away with tears in my eyes.

"I love you too mom." Taking a deep breath, my mom composed herself, putting on her brightest smile she could muster.

"And who is this handsome young man?" She asked, finally taking notice of Noah who had just witnessed our awkward family moment. Of course though, Noah went with it, shaking my mothers hand and all.

"Noah Foster ma'am, and may I say, this is a very beautiful home." My mother blushed, shooting me a quick approving wink.

"Well, I'm sure glad you think so. Now, are you and my daughter-" My eyes widened, my cheeks burning in embarrassment. Looking at Noah, I gave him a sly grin, arching my brow.

"Um, no ma'am, just really good friends." He said quickly, his cheeks burning. Hurt flooded through me but I hid it quickly, I couldn't do that to him. He may have kissed me this morning, but Riley died 2 days ago, I can't force him into anything. Looking at my mom, I could see her analyzing us so I quickly changed the subject.
