I'm back at it. At like 5 in the morning
. .
"Ah, cat got your tongue? I wouldn't know what to say either if I ran away from my significant other for four months! You didn't even spend thanksgiving with me!" Duncan proclaimed causally. As if this was a regular conversation. As if she ran away from a small argument. As if he didn't slam her into a fucking-Katya opened her mouth just as a heavy set man stood behind Duncan. "This her Mr. Wade?" He talked as if she wasn't there.
"Yes officer Smith. Thank you so much for your services in helping me find my girlfriend." Duncan's eyes never left Katya's, a sinister smile on his lips. The officer tipped his hat to both of them, not noticing Katya's pleading stare as he walked back to his car. There, Katya noticed that Duncan came in his own vehicle, one of which Katya didn't recognized.
"Love, what's taking so long? Who is-"
Katya flinches softly as she felt Elijah's presence behind her. Normally with Duncan, Katya would never be that close to another man ever. It made her feel wrong for him to look at her with Elijah. As if they were still together.
Duncan's eyes narrow as they move to Elijah's. "Whose this Katya?" Duncan questions quietly, clam and even and she knows that voice. The accusing one. The one where Duncan has already made up his mind on what he'll do to her. Her mind goes on auto-pilot, self-defending. She lies, easy like she always does.
"N-nobody, just... He's here a-as a friend-" but Elijah growls, pulling her in close to him.
"She's mine. I really don't know what you thought you were gonna accomplish by coming her but I'll let you know she isn't going anywhere. And I'll be damned if it was anywhere will you." Elijah all but snarled at him and Katya's never heard Elijah so hostile before.
Duncan's jaw clenched the way it does when he doesn't get what he wants. Duncan's whole body is like one big memory to Katya. She can feel the contours in his jaw just by looking at him. She knows the lines in his hands by heart. She knows him. But he's still manages to strike fear in her chest.
He looks at her sudden with a wide smile. "You still love the pain, don't you baby? Does he do that to you? Do you beg for it like a little sl-"
"Enough. You're gonna make me do something I won't t regret. Now get the hell off the porch."
Duncan puts his hands up in surrender and when bringing them down his brushes Katya's cheek. Elijah reacts by pulling her back faster than Katya could do herself.
"I'll see you around babe."
"Not if I have something to do with it." Elijah hissed.
Duncan smiles anyway. As if he's won something. He gets into his car. Eyes sharp and amused and Katya can only stare. Only remember when those smiles was use to charm her, to make her blush, to make her laugh. Now if makes her chest ache, her stomach curl.
.
Katya's been sitting in the living room staring at the fire for two hours now. Tears have dried on her from both her panic attack and demands that they find another home to move in and two, her acting up triggered her mother. Her bipolar disorder getting the best of her. It made Katya feel even worse, knowing she was the cause of it. Knowing she's caused her mother this pain since there father left. The fact that Katya's the reason her father left in the first place. No one could get her to move. Minutes of coaxing did nothing to get Katya to look away from the glowing flames in front of her. Not even the comfort of Elijah's natural warmth could soothe her. Sometimes she felt she seemed so unworthy of him. That she was to selfish for him. Or she wasn't willing to let him in.
