Chapter 25: The Wedding
The morning sun broke lazily over the horizon, casting a soft golden hue over the quiet neighborhood. The world was still, almost reverent, as if it, too, had paused in honor of the day ahead.
Yibo was already wide awake.
In fact, he hadn’t really slept much. His body had been tucked under warm sheets, but his mind had danced through memories and nerves—flashes of Zhan's smile, thoughts of vows yet to be spoken, images of Yuan and Yuri walking around in tiny suits. Love buzzed like electricity in his veins.
At 6:30 a.m. sharp, he stepped out of the car and walked up the familiar stone path leading to his family house. He exhaled a foggy breath, hands tucked in his pockets, heart a whirlwind of excitement and disbelief.
Through the wide kitchen window, he spotted Haikuan already awake, legs crossed primly as he sipped steaming tea, reading the morning news like some ancient dignitary.
Yibo scrunched his nose.
“You look so freaking old with your posture, ge,” he teased, stepping inside and dropping his overnight bag by the door.
Haikuan didn’t even flinch. “Yeah, whatever floats your boat. Be thankful it’s your wedding day—if this were any other morning, you’d have a bruise on your face.”
Yibo let out a bark of laughter. “I was just complimenting your refined, distinguished aura, actually. You just scream, responsible elder brother who reads the business section before breakfast.”
Haikuan snorted and waved him off. “Go take a bath before I throw this teacup at your head.”
Yibo grinned and bounded upstairs, the adrenaline finally catching up to him.
The steam from the shower fogged up the mirrors, but it couldn’t blur the softness on Yibo’s face as he stepped out, towel slung around his shoulders. He reached into his bag and pulled out a pale cream envelope.
His vow.
He stared at it for a moment, heart clenching. Then, sitting down at the edge of the bed, he uncapped his pen and began to write.
Before you, I never truly believed in love. I grew up believing that—until you came.
Zhan, thank you. For everything. My words will never be enough to say how thankful I am to have you as my partner. I’m more than blessed.
I don’t really believe in God, but now? I thank Him every day for giving me you.
In you, I found a partner in life, a lover, a friend, a safe place—someone I can be my ugliest and most vulnerable with.
In you, I found someone who supports me, respects me, honors me, and made peace with me.
We’ve been through a lot, and when I say a lot, even this vow won’t be enough to list it all.
Thank you for accepting me again. For never making me feel like I’m too much. For embracing all the parts that make me, me.
Thank you for devoting yourself not just to me, but to Yuan and Yuri.
I’m not perfect. Our relationship isn’t perfect. But I can promise you one thing:
I will love you until my last breath.
I love you, Zhan. Let’s start our forever, from this day forward.
Tears rolled down his cheeks as he folded the letter back into the envelope. His thumb brushed over Zhan’s name, scrawled neatly across it.
