Kat

It was hard to focus on anything besides the fight in front of me. I was aware everyone else around me, and but at the same time I wasn't. I'd knock someone down, either unconcious or dead I couldn't be sure but I had to turn off my emotions, otherwise I would be a wreck, and logically I knew if I gave them the chance I'd be dead too.

Everywhere I looked there was blood, hell if I looked at myself I'm sure I'd see it on me. I had a slash on my left arm just above the elbow which was stinging uncomfortably but I pushed through it. Hours we've been fighting, and I could feel myself tiring, but I gathered strength from the sun which was at its brightest. It's hard to believe that just twelve hours ago I was sleeping peacefully in my dorm with Spencer and Rae.

I felt a sudden burst of strength, probably due to my anger and practically incinerated the man who was currently engaging me. He was probably mid-twenties and human. Poor guy. I thought as I jumped over his charred body and helped out a girl who trying to fight with her earth-bending but her strength was weak. This couldn't last much longer, none of us could. I longed for some kind of break, but there are no breaks in a war, so I charged on.

Suddenly I saw Jayden up ahead, next to Rae, he seemed to be shouting something at her and she nodded, before turning to smoke and trailing off. Jayden had a group surrounding him as he fought, so I stepped in, picking up a fallen sword and taking out two of the numbers before they knew what was happening, then standing alongside each other we fought.

I was busy taking out a middle aged woman who was trying to drown mid air when I escaped and noticed the opposition retreating. What was going on? I noticed Jayden had stopped and was watching them run off away from the campus, towards the wall they'd blasted through. “I wonder what they're do-” I was cut off, I hadn't noticed the way Jayden had moved towards me, his eyes lighting up and his mouth opening ready to warn me. It happened in a matter of seconds, I was standing there whole one moment when the next I felt the piercing pain spread from my shoulder down to bottom of my ribs.

I stumbled, gasping and fell to the ground. Face to face with a dead girl, probably no older than sixteen. Her eyes were open, but empty and I wondered, if I'd look like that too. I was laying there, on my stomach, breathing, my ears ringing and everything sounded distant. I heard a thud, like a the sound a tree makes when it falls to the ground, then I was looking up, at the sky and Jayden was there. His eyes intense and sad, he was talking to me, but I couldn't understand what he was saying, it was so far away, so far.

“You're going to be okay, it's okay Kat, just look at me.” He was saying, and I watched as other faces swam above him, Spencer with tears on her face, and I wanted to reach out and wipe them away. My hand I watched as it rose and then it fell away and was replaced by darkness.

I stood, breathing heavily and closed my eyes for a second, and when I opened them, Taylor hadn't moved. He stood there, watching me, his curious blue eyes the same but different at the same time. He was wearing a suit, something that struck me as I stood there, torn and bleeding in my gear.

“It's nice to see you again.” He said, quiet. His voice was smoother somehow, almost like velvet, but I knew that velvet was deceptive, because as soon as you get a closer look the sandpaper would tear your skin away. I stayed quiet and he stood watching me. “Do you remember that day? Mmm, you were exquisite.” His eyes were dark now, and I wanted to react, I wanted to throttle him and tear his heart out like he had torn mine.

“Of course you do, who am I kidding. It was a perfect day, like today. Cloudless, and the water was just, refreshing.” He went so far as to remove his jacket and toss it onto a nearby rock. “Want to relive it? If you'd stayed in the castle that day, sweet Rae, we could relive that moment, everyday for the rest of our lives. It can still happen, I can make you be with me forever. Make you my queen.” He smiled now, it was a smile the old Taylor would give me, one that used to make my knees quiver and my heart-rate quicken. Now it made my heart-thump, but for a very different reason.
