Samuel

The clones were scary. Samuel hardly dared to look at them. But someone else was more frightening than the strange similarity of the leading men.

No, not one. There were two that made him shudder even more. The Shadows. Especially the one that was introduced to the clones. A slender man, the same age as Samuel, perhaps younger or older, slightly muscular and with piercing eyes behind his ugly mask. He moved like a lurking predator.

This Shadow was currently looking out of the window. Everything about him seemed deadly to Samuel. From his posture to the horrible mask that bared its pointed teeth.

"Is there anything there?" Sofian Goldbird stroked his daughter's light hair briefly, then he got up and went to the window. He stood still in front of the window for a moment, then shook his head.

"What is it?" asked one of his brothers. Soel, Soran, or Socrate. Samuel could not distinguish them. Except for Sofian, who occasionally hugged his daughter, and Ferry, who stood next to his desk, Samuel didn't know which of them was who.

"Oh?" Now the remaining clones also stepped to the window. Followed by Lena, who pushed past them and finally almost stuck to the window with her nose.

"Who is that?" she asked. "Purple hair?"

The Shadow, on the other hand, did not move from the spot. The view out of the window was now blocked for him, but he did not avert his gaze. It seemed as if he could see through the people in front of him. Maybe he could.

Samuel was also still standing against the wall. His gaze wandered from the Shadow to the strange spectacle in front of the window: the clones and the beauty. They were all staring out the window. Silently. As if spellbound.

Violet hair.

An exception had been made for him. People with visible mutations have never been hired at the seat of government before. Obviously, there was a second exception. Or an intruder.

Samuel cleared his throat nervously. "Should I report something to the security service?" he asked. Although it was his job to stay by Lena's side, if the person outside was a threat, he could leave his post for a short time. Especially with these monsters, the semi-robots, in the room. The Shadows. They could protect the girl better than he could. But the person they saw there didn't seem to be particularly dangerous...

No one seemed frightened or worried.

The Shadow turned to Samuel. His blood-red eyes shone softly, somehow urgently, and at the same time infinitely cold. "No need. It's just a new employee."

The second Shadow, a woman, nodded briefly. She said nothing.

"Ah." Samuel nodded. The shadow's eyes seemed to catch his gaze. Horrible eyes. A look as if the cyborg wished to see the world burn. Bloodthirsty. And as if he were indifferent to everything at the same time. Especially Samuel.

"An employee." Samuel grimaced nervously. What is so special about him? Does he have five arms? In addition to the purple hair?

"Well, shall we continue?" Ferry Goldbird turned away from the window, followed by his brothers. Almost at the same time and with the same movement. Only Sofian remained standing next to his daughter. "That would be all, Love", he said to his daughter. "Let us old men discuss the boring stuff now."

Ferry, on the other hand, dismissed the two Shadows. "Number 100? You can go. Number A? So can you. Thank you." He smiled briefly and raised a hand. "Oh! One moment! Number 100? Have you been satisfactorily instructed in your tasks?"

"Yes, Sir!" The Shadow nodded.

"Good. Then go to your post. Number A? I'll leave him to your great abilities."

"Of course." The woman nodded. "Number 100? Follow me."

The two shadows left, but Lena was still standing in front of the window. "Child?" Her father hugged her briefly. "Go now."

"Yes, Father." The beautiful girl hesitantly turned her gaze from the new employee. For a moment, Samuel was overcome by a slight jealousy. He didn't understand why. "See you later, Father. Uncles. Don't discuss boring stuff for too long. We wanted to play cards together today, didn't we?" Lena smiled.

"That's what we planned." Ferry nodded. "I promise our fair lady that we won't overdo it with the important things and will play her into the ground later!"

"You are all welcome to try that!" Lena snorted briefly, then she looked at Samuel. "Come on. We're going."

She left the room. Samuel followed her. But right at the next window, she stopped and looked out. Samuel stood beside her. Now he could see the employee as well.

Violet hair. Otherwise, this person had no abnormalities. At least not from afar. Samuel even knew him. "Oh. It's him...", he grumbled in surprise.

"You know him?" Lena looked at him, just as surprised. "Who is that?"

"A scrap dealer from Level 3. His name is... Uh... Flo. I forgot his last name. Why is he here?"

"Level 3?" Lena frowned and looked out of the window again. Flo was talking to a girl there. The two now seemed to be on their way back. Slowly, they left the field of vision of the two people at the window. "He has beautiful hair. But usually... He wouldn't be hired here. A stupid rule."

"You like violet?" Samuel almost sighed. Again, he felt this jealousy. His hair was dark blond and green. Not pretty. If only she would describe him like that... Attractive would also be nice. Even better. Pull yourself together. You generally don't stand a chance. Stay professional!

Lena chewed her lower lip briefly, then shook her head. "No... Not really. Well, I like your hair better. But... I think I've seen him before. But that can't be. I've never been to Level 3."

"Miss..." Samuel didn't trust his ears. "What?" My hair? His face glowed. Just like Lena's face. With red cheeks, she looked all the more beautiful.

"Well... Anyway. It cannot be. I've never been to Level 3 before. Come on, Samuel! Let's see what funny things we can do here. I used to slide down the banisters. Of course, that was forbidden... Come! How about it? Let's break the rules!" The girl grinned. But she still seemed confused. She only covered it up.

It wasn't Samuel's place to ask questions. So he nodded, embarrassed. She likes my hair. "Of course, Miss. However, I must ask you not to slide down any banisters. You could hurt yourself. Rules have their purpose."

"Booooooriiiing. Come along!"
